89(*) Open Trails On All 4 Very Snowy Open Sectors At #Tremblant .

The Low Sun In The Early Winter Sky.

The days are getting longer, no doubt, but we’re still
only a week away from the shortest day of the year
and the sun is so obviously low in the afternoon sky
of Tremblant’s Northerly latitude.

For several days, we've written conditions would would be prone
to softness, traffic generated bumps and moguls, and take
multiple overnight grooming cycles to catch up with it all.
That’s still true. When there are moguls on P’tit Bonheur,
a Green trail that is typically as flat as a pancake, you know
there’s still a lot of very soft loft within the top layers that
has yet to achieve ideal grooming compaction. Today will
be another incremental step forward in that objective.

With roughly a metre and a half of sudden new snow, an
amount we’d be happy to see for the whole month of February,
but arriving in a week in this case, there is nothing more that
Crews can do because it is simply an overwhelming amount of
snowfall volume that takes time to consolidate in the mechanical
grooming process.

Fortunately, there’s Nansen.

Since 1939, this trail has been a North American benchmark of
every day reliability in smoothness, easy pitch, and quite nearly
flawless grooming preparation, no matter what. At 6 kilometres,
Nansen is also Tremblant’s single longest trail and an absolutely
world class learning descent.

Weather Notes:

This weather profile typically means that the Summit is
in the cloud, and just as typically, precipitation falls below
the cloud, not so much in the cloud, so while you may get
a wet butt, and be subjected to cloud suspended micro-particles,
there are actually very good chances we could escape without
being exposed to any outright rain on Mountain elevations.
We could be wrong, but this light-icon profile can also mean
that the active precipitation is in fairly narrow bands that traverse
the region in the valleys. Maybe, possibly, could be, those
traveling bands could be traveling somewhere else...

If, if, if we are right.... this weather profile analysis may be
identically applicable to tomorrow.

Conditions Notes:

Due to the massive 1.5M amounts of recent natural snowfall,
there are still vast expanses of soft-zone groomed surfaces
that can eventually develop moguls and washboard bumps, so
when combined with the reduced contrast of grey-fog-overcast,
it is vitally important to start your day with lower challenges
and work up, if safe visual and terrain contour navigation permits.

You may not assume that things will be the same later on if
you’re returning to a trail you ran this morning, this afternoon.
Surface conditions may vary significantly from hour to hour.

Consult with the Tremblant Info.Ski for guidance on matching
your realistic skills with appropriate terrain selections.

It is quite likely that the weather forecast will keep some
folks at home. A few drop icons tends to freak people out,
people who have no idea that the conditions on a day like
today are usually very fine within the posted skill levels.

The vast majority of conditions complaints we hear are from
Intermediates on Expert Terrain. These complaints are not
legitimate.

Furthermore, if you hear complains about Expert trails then
maybe, just maybe, those folks are not really Experts, because
that's what being an Expert means, genuine “Experts” can
handle anything.
