The two parallel trails descending from the crest above the Resort
village may appear to be one super wide surface, however on the
Official trail map they are separated as # 29, Johannsen and under
the Flying Mile Quad, # 26, St-Bernard. This view above is taken
directly overhead as the Flying Mile Quad is about 20 metres below
the crest and it is a great representation of the performance quality
we expect to see on an overall basis at Tremblant today.

The new snow from the night before last had some residual thickness
yesterday which made the technical demand slightly higher due to
the extra focus required to navigate variable depths along descents,
so one additional night-shift of grooming should have rendered out
almost all of that where it is freshly machine covered as the top layer
density should be closer to ideal.

There are always examples of the finest quality possible under any
circumstances and we would site the descent combination of trails
# 5 and 6, La Passe to Nansen Bas/Lower respectively, as one of the
very best Beginner pathways to learning anywhere in North America.

Weather Notes:

Another quite cool and very sunny first tracks, but a rapid
shift mid-day as an active front with snowfall moves in from
the west. Depending on how “Active” it really is, it could be
quite an interesting evolution, but one of the most user friendly
aspects is going to be the relatively quick rise in the temps.

Take Time To Look Over Your Shoulder...

Riding up the lifts automatically prioritizes an upward view
of primarily sky, the chairs in front of you and what you pass
over either trails or bush. What we want to point out is that
particularly as lifts get up towards their peaks, some of the
most outstanding views on the Mountain are worth a glance
over your shoulder to admire the exceptional POV’s that
can be seen while elevated off the ground.

Here’s one we really like and try to capture under
sunny conditions and we have to say it never gets
anything less than magnificent.

POV Over Tremblant’s Founder’s Namesake Trail # 24,
Versant Sud/South Side, Summit Sector “Ryan” Haut/Upper

Conditions Notes:

In the Groomed:

Where freshly(#) groomed there should be a noticeable increase
in the overall compacted density of the top layers as yesterdays
residual loft and softness get another pass of weighted machine
pressure that will reduce the tendency to become tracked or
build moguls.

The net result should be a more forgiving performance range
especially in the Green/Beginner terrain options and all the
adjoining Blue/Intermediate slopes.

(#)We specifically refer to “freshly” because there can be two
types of groomed trails differentiated by the term “Recently”.
Some trails within the groomed domain may have been done
yesterday and still carry the groomed icons but may not have
this mornings absolutely new corduroy. They will be smooth
but may show traffic use patterns that can be noticeable when
there may have been previous softness, but they are still
legitimately within the groomed category. This can sometimes
affect Beginners or less experienced Intermediates, particularly
where there may be more challenging connectors. If you are
bringing your Beginner friends to the Mountain, it may be wise
to pre-run some zones before you take them into challenge.

One example of this connector challenge is trail # 40, Franc Sud,
leading to trail # 95 Algonquin. Algonquin is quite near flawless,
but Franc Sud has two steeper pitches that are part of the sector
central corridor to all the other trails and the traffic volume can
quickly make it bumpy and quite demanding for inexperienced
or less confident Beginners.

The overall summary for the Groomed range across all
skill levels is very fine to excellent with generally very
high forgiveness, but there may be a necessary focus
on technical elements for some individual circumstances
and you need to be ready for that.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

As we noted yesterday at 434cm’s so-far, Tremblant
now has more snow on Feb. 6, than the 25 year seasonal
average total.

That’s an impressive stat that holds a key insight into
the Expert level excellence that can be found within
these categories.

Below is an interesting case study of what is Officially listed
as an un-groomed trail, but we would call a recently groomed
trail, # 82, Versant Nord/North Side Expo Haut/Upper. Yes,
it is not groomed today, nor yesterday, however you can clearly
see the benefit of recent grooming in the trail centre where
it was flattened and levelled for Opening and that will absolutely
still effect the centre zone performance compared to the raw
outboard trail sides.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
