Introduction/Preamble: “First Tracks” is an expression recognized
by all serious Skiers/Boarders that signifies the Sweet Desirability
and Anticipation of a New Day, or in this case, a New Season.
This article is dedicated to not only those who place a high value
on the tradition of attending for the “New Season”, but it’s also
for everyone else who understands the significance of how
the Opening Days Sequence can positively effect the quickness
of Open Terrain Development from that point forward.
In that regard, we are including a link below as a Cross-reference
to our Winter Seasonal Weather Outlook for 2017/18

Now, back to Nov. 2017 Chronology...

The following screen captures are from a Helicopter
circling over the compass quadrant West-Sou-West, through
to West-Nor-West, looking over the below annotated
Versant Sud, South Side Summit Sectors.

The Net Results...

Not Only Did Snow Squalls Cover Tremblant...
48 hours later, due to the supporting Sub-Zero Temps,
we can safely say... “It Stuck”!

Of all the outcomes from Pre-Season, Opening Day Co-Factors,
the one we like the best is illustrated by the first of the
Snowmaking and Weather Observations shown below.

Versant Nord, North Side, Base Level Snowmaking on
Beauchemin Bas, Lower, to the Loading Dock of the Duncan Quad.

The reason we like this Base Level Snowmaking the most is
that it is not common to every seasons opening, i.e., there’s
always snow on the Summit for Opening Day, but not always
Ski-Out to either Sud, South, or Nord, North Base Levels.

(We know for a fact that there are Versant Nord fans who
only come out when they can access the Mountain from
the North-Side Base Station. Some seasons, that may not
happen for an undetermined, "weather permitting" period
that can be anything from days to weeks. Consequently, Nord Base
Mountain access is an important stage in seasonal development,
so if it is possible this year, it represents an automatic
head-start on all metrics of both access and square area
of Open Terrain.)

In the last 10 seasons openings, only 2(?) have had Summit
to Base Sud, Nord, Full Ski-out Vertical.

Mountain Crews are not in the habit of wasting time, labour or
financial resources, so this very evident commitment of huge
logistical support for initial Summit to Base Skiable Terrain is
one of the very best, completely positive, indicators of a rare
abundance of potentially available terrain for Opening Day of
Winter Alpine Ski Season 2017/18.

Moving Forward....

Part A) Re: Versant Nord, The North Side,
Visible Snowmaking Infrastructure as of 11.13.17
(Part B, Versant Sud, The South Side, Following Below.)

From Chemin Nordet, the Highway that runs from Tremblant’s Nord, North
Lac Superieur side, to Saint Donat, the following 3 stage telephoto sequence
shows the the ongoing construction of Alpine Trail Snowmaking on the visible
upper, Versant Nord, North Side potions of the Mountain. The second and third
pic’s are annotated to show specific terrain references.

There are 2 things we need to review in the Above Photo...

1) The Descent path from the Mountain Mid-Point to base is
quite visibly obvious from the TGV Quad Base, down Beauvallon
to the top of Johannsen, which is the front facing trail down into
the centre of the Resort Village.

2) The largest, visible, single building is the grey “Fairmont Tremblant”,
seen on the outboard left side of the Resort Village. Directly behind
that is the “Flying Mile” Sector, which rises about half Mountain in the
foreground. Behind the “Flying Mile” are the Summit Sector portions
of Beauvallon/Alpine and Nansen Trails, where there is active snowmaking
seen as small fuzzy white spots on the upper Mountain.

Pertaining to #2 above, the Photo Below... is taken from a higher
elevation vantage point in the Old Village of Mt. Tremblant, from where
we can Super-Zoom in to get a better look at this Summit sector of
Versant Sud, South Side Snowmaking for Opening Day. Trail Detail
as Annotated within the pic.

(A Note To Tremblant Park Fans, Re:
Above, Top Left Pic.File Annotation

We do not have any exact confirmation for this season yet,
but the Park Modules installed on Lower Alpine in the Official
Adrenaline Park Zone on Opening Weekend last season were the
most developed we have ever seen for the first days of any
season.

Based solely on the Snowmaking visible towards the bottom of Alpine,
we can only theorize Mountain Crews would be trying to replicate
a similar opening this year, so if you’d like to review that, go to our
Mountain Conditions Archive for last years Opening and scroll through
for the pic. recorded there for Nov. 27.16. Of course it’s too early
to guarantee anything yet, but for many years now, there have
been Park Modules for Opening and this year should be no exception.)

Below is a zoom-in detail showing a lateral view across
Beauvallon/Alpine and over Nansen. The wooden fence
you see is the Nansen “S” descent path that is the Green
trail, alternate way down that bypasses the Blue rated,
steeper “Pitch”.

This view above may change in the peripheral dimensions
because it’s still “Fall”, and Trail-side snow may or may not
stick, but the obvious scope of Johannsen Trail Coverage is
very well established. If current forecasts hold true, we
think there will be more than adequate snow resources here
to meet Opening Day goals.

REPEAT:

Mountain Crews are not in the habit of wasting time, labour or
financial resources, so this very evident commitment of huge
logistical support for initial Summit to Base Skiable Terrain is
one of the very best, completely positive, indicators of a rare
abundance of potentially available terrain for Opening Day of
Winter Alpine Ski Season 2017/18.

additional to follow up to Opening Day.)

Messy For Driving...

Potentially Excellent For Skiing!

Snowmaking on Upper McCulloch???? Wow!!!

The localized, ground level snow blast on the lower portions of
the trail-side trees certainly looks like Snowmaking evidence to us(?)

If that was true, it would be unusually fine news for the approach of
Opening Day. We have often commented that Snowmaking on this
Sector of the Mountain has a major cosmetic impact on traffic passing
in front of the Mountain too. Seeing Skiable Terrain from a ground level
observational point is a big asset that helps spread the word... Skiing
Season Is Almost Open!

It’s important to note that Mother Nature may effect the
available Opening Day Terrain Up or Down.

At this stage, we are leaning to the “Up” side, if anything,
because of the cool temps that should at least allow optimal
Snowmaking. If Mother Nature decided to contribute additional
Natural Snow at meaningful depth, then there may be the
possibility of “Bonus” Terrain. Any “Bonus” could also be
in the form of a more rapid terrain development, allowing
for “More” and “Sooner” without specific reference of course,
due to any number of variables that are too complex to
precisely anticipate.

Bottom Line So Far @ 11.21.17...

Excellent Opening Day Potential!
