Nov.2018 - New Trails, Re-configured Trails.

Post by T360 »

.

As part of the $17Mil. Tremblant expansion and upgrade program
undertaken in the Fall of 2018, there are considerable changes to
Versant Nord, The North Side Trail inventory which has been increased,
as well as two very significant reconfigurations.

While the Terrain expansions are very well documented in
press release descriptions, the reconfigurations are only
included in mapping, and not elaborated on in text, so
we will cover their importance below, within this article.

But First...

The New Trail Development is primarily in additional
Glade/Hors Piste/Sous Bois/Bush trails as per the following:

Text/Descriptions relative to all the map annotated
expansions are included below, in the form of the
Press Release issued by Tremblant.

From the top, down, here are 2 Zoom-in’s:

Secondly, Please Note:
The reconfiguration of Trail #68 , “Rope Tow” is not included
in the Official text below, but never-the-less, we feel it is
very important to note because it is going to reshape some
of the basic use patterns on Versant Nord, The North Side.

If you scroll back up over the 3 above graphics, you will notice
the Nord, North Terrain Park has been moved from “Rope Tow”
to “Sissy Schuss”/“Sissy Schuss Bas", Lower.

This is a huge change. To begin with, the Nord, North Park
has been in the same place for near 10 years(?). At the time
it was put there, it generated mixed feedback because this
section, as part of the whole “Lowell Thomas” sector, was
extremely popular as a wide open Ski Trail, and for those who
considered it to be such a fine run, the Terrain Park was an
interruption that was not initially appreciated. Of course, everyone
got used to it and the Kidz of all ages who enjoyed the Park
were just happy to have a permanently designated play-zone,
which they have thoroughly enjoyed right up to last run, April 22, 2018.

On the flip-side, Sissy Schuss is one of the most brilliant,
natural, near ideal topographical performance carving trails
on Planet Earth, appreciated by many and definitely a local
favourite, so it is going to be interesting to see how its
character may be take on new or different qualities.

The new Park Zone is called “Mitik”. See Graphic # 3
(not sure of the names meaning, but will update here
as it becomes available). It is unclear how the Park
Modules will interact with the descent lines until we
see the execution of the final installations. It should
also be noted that where ever Park Modules are
positioned, there are still good descent options in
adjacent, surrounding trail space.

Here is a Web-Cam Snap Shot from 11.15.18
showing the Summit-Level “One-At-A Time”
controlled-entrance fence gone, and Rope Tow now
appears as if it is to be wide open again, right from the top.

This is the Official Text description/detail:

TAÏGA :
This is our Facebook name contest winner.
This extreme level glade is located along the
C.B.C. trail and is accessible from the summit.
This section, covering a large area of 24.5 acres,
is representative of the mixed boreal forest.

LES VALLONS :
This 9.6-acre difficult level glade is located in
rolling terrain, thus its French name “Les Vallons”.
Nestled halfway down the Duncan trail, it is also
easily accessible by La Vanier trail at the
mid-mountain on the North Side.

DYNAGRIFFE :
This trail, located between Dynamite and La Griffe
trails, was already nicknamed Dynagriffe by local
skiers and snowboarders. This very difficult 17.3-acre
area is accessible by the Expo Express lift.

ARCHIPEL :
Access this difficult 11-acre section made up of
islands of trees via the Rope Tow. The bottom section
is very difficult and can also be reaching from the
higher Beauchemin and the Axel trails.

EXTENSION :
This new glade on The Edge covers an area of
18 acres. Of difficult level, it is the extension of
the Reaction glade and allows for a long continuous
descent through wooded area. In the process,
the Reaction glade was also expanded.

LTE :
The installation of the new Lowell Thomas Express
quad high-speed chairlift allowed to open a new run
under the lift. Its name is therefore the abbreviation
of the chairlift’s name. The LTE is a short difficult level
2-acre trail that leads directly to the bottom of the new lift.

Note that a new glade area was also cleared by the
Boiling Kettle. These new glades are ready for winter!
Let’s meet you there after the first big snow dump of
the season!
