We have put this historic pic.file in as a larger than
average size image in order to provide a better
view of Hans Faulkner.

Please Note: 2 Items:

1) The Pic.file is identified as captioned within the image itself, however,
“Hans Falkner” is an incorrect spelling for “Hans Faulkner”. Anyone trying
to do a search function for the the incorrect spelling of the Surname
“Faulkner” will not get valid results.

2) As historic images go, this is actually quite a good portrait of
Hans Faulkner, which is why we’re running the larger size.

What is interesting in the following series of Historic Post Cards
is the perspectives loosely around the “Flying Mile” lift that was the
first stage in the two stage accent to the summit level. The second
stage was the lift going up what is now Versant Sud, South Side,
Trail # 7, “Alpine”. This two stage accent is very well rendered in
the third card front below.

Below:

This card shows what most photos don’t because of the Versant Sud,
South Side “Flying Mile” topographical peak that obscures the base
of the second lift accent stage rising up in the visible straight line
that gets to the top between the graphic style letters “k” and “i” below.
This second stage lift to the Summit level is now Trail # 7, “Alpine”,
and in the time-frame this card came from, Skiers rose to the plateau
that is now the "La Crete” junction at the top of Alpine/Nansen/P’tit Bonheur.
We believe this card to be from before 1948, before Versant Nord/North Side
was open. At this time, it is our understanding skiers needed to climb up the
final accent path to the Mountain peak to access the trails on the side we
now associate with Trail # 22, “Kandahar”, and the current location of the
Summit “Grand Manitou” Lodge.

The following Post Cards are samples of very commonly re-occurring availability
through various trading options.

In this case, all of them became available at the same time. What we think
happened is that they were collected by a single individual who did not have
a camera while on a winter ski holiday at Tremblant, and purchased this
selection off a post card rack at the Mountain to take home as souvenirs
to both record the trip and show the family. They may have sit in a drawer
for 50 or more years until something happened that caused the drawer to
be cleaned out, we can only imagine, but whoever uncovered them realized
they were worth the effort to find them a new home.

As we have written elsewhere here, the advent of digital photography and
internet communication has quickly made these image forms obsolete, however
they do illuminate identifiable time periods in the history of their subject matter,
so for those with the interest, a window into the past.
