The Ottawa Ski Show Continues To Exhibit
Excellent Content For Pre-Season Winter Enthusiasts.

In our opinion, the Ottawa Ski Show may arguably be
the best all-round ski show in Canada.

Of course we’re Tremblant-centric, so for us its the first
“In Person” view of the new seasons pricing options
at the Tremblant booth. As usual, there are numerous
deals and bundles on lift passes and lodging that can be
packaged to fit almost any budget.

Each and every Ski Show has it’s strength’s and weaknesses,
and while the Ottawa Ski Show is not the biggest, due to
the significant profile of Ski/Gear Manufactures in attendance,
we think it is a wonderfully balanced show. The Ottawa Skiing
public is highly engaged with local and regional Ski Centres
that are all in very handy proximity, so what we find is a more
informed, more seasonally dedicated consumer. Ottawa Skiers
easily have a more fully “Seasonal” participation level due to
this close proximity to multitudes of slopes and we think the
focus on the new ski products reflects that higher level of use
where there may be a better match between the Skier skills and
the Skis design purpose.

Below are just a few samples of the Ski Manufacturers in attendance.
(Please refer to the “Exhibitor List” attached below for the complete
roster.)

On A Technical Note:

At Booth 807 “Atomic Skis”...

You saw these on their Website, you read about these in a Ski Magazine...

At the Ottawa Ski Show, you can see them, pick them up, talk
to the Atomic Factory Rep. and get a “Hands On” look at exactly
the expert gear you want for the coming season...

Why we are showing a Website Excerpt Below:

As “Front Side Carvers” we hold a very specific opinion
about Ski Design that we want to draw attention to.

Firstly, we need a bit of review...

“Camber” is the term used to label the profile of a ski,
where there is a natural arch built into the ski between
the tip and the tail. For about the last 7 or 8 seasons,
it has been popular to modify this natural arch in such a way
that the tips or tails of many recreational skis have been bent
up for roughly the first or last 20 cm’s or so to create what is
referred to as “Rocker” tips or tails. This design feature has
evolved primarily from “Back Country” Skis where the additional
end curvature facilitated better turning and floating capabilities
in skis used for very deep powder snow. Eventually, this design
feature became very trendy and was even incorporated into the
tips of Race Slalom Skis, arguably to improve turn initiation.
We never liked it because on groomed/packed or firm surfaces,
it basically left an unsupported portion of the ski at its tip, free
to vibrate over surface irregularities and you could feel that
right up through the boot and your leg as a very annoying sensation.

Additionally, it shortened the skis running length on the snow which
reduced both the high speed stability, and the turning rebound energy
in the ski, which we found to be an overall net loss of performance.

We have been very happy to see the return to 100% “Full Camber”
in the type of skis we use as shown in this “Atomic” website excerpt.
If you went to booth # 807 you could see and touch them for yourself,
not to mention, compare them to other manufacturers on site for
your own evaluations of what brand features you want in your next
ski purchase.

Due to having all the major manufacturers in the single venue
of the Ottawa Ski Show...

You Can Not Make These Types Of Technical Evaluations
As Easily Anywhere Else. Period.

We consider this single comparison feature to be one of the
best assets of the Ottawa Ski Show, and we would encourage
the organizers to keep up the good work in terms of maintaining
manufacturers representation in future shows.

Nice to see the Nordic Ski equipment suppliers here too!

If You Ski, You Need Ski Tuning.

Booth 429 - Sidecut Ski And Snowboard Tuning Equipment.

No matter what skills you have, the single most important
interface between the energy and directive force your body
can make, is the edge of the ski.

If you don’t do it yourself, you will have to pay someone else
to do it, so there is a very real case to be made for learning
the basics of ski maintenance for safety, economy and all the
fun that you get from otptimized control and performance.

Everything you need for DIY ski tuning was available at the
Ottawa Ski Show and is displayed below. They’ll show you what to get...

The bottom line is that the Ottawa Ski Show is one
of the best Ski Shows in Canada due to its wide ranging
exhibitor list that continues to feature Equipment Manufacturers
as primary sources of technological development information for
Alpine Snow Sports in a direct-to-consumer format. In that regard,
in our opinion, it is better than the Toronto Ski Show which tends
to focus more on travel.
