Trail # 66 Tunnel, North Side

Post by T360 »

.

Tunnel originates below the summit on the North Side,
at the intersection of # 68 Rope Tow, # 67 Lowell Thomas
and just below the lateral Cat Track that runs over to
Duncan. The entrance is under and just to the right of the
Lowell Thomas Triple Chair as it passes over this intersection.

Tunnel ends in the ravine below the Expo chair summit as we
see it here, just right of center screen, un-groomed. The groomed
run just left of center screen is # 65 Banzai. If you exit right from
this pic., you end up on the lower runout of Lowell Thomas. If you
exit left from this pic., you end up at the mid-point of # 59 Duncan.

Here is a Zoom sequence from the base of Tunnel showing
the whole visible portion from this point, mid-point zoom
and zoom to visible crest at top. You can see that Tunnel is
left as a natural mogul run and those moguls can become
quite large which suit its black diamond rating. It is a fairly
narrow run and requires expert technique to handle well.
Pictures do not adequately capture its steepness. It also takes
good muscle power and knee durability to get down. It can be
a real joy with deep, fresh snow.
