The starting grid for Sunday's feature Trans Am race.

One aspect that made this year's event so appealing
was the presence of so many vintage Trans Am
cars that many spectators can relate to on a personal
basis. All weekend long, we heard time after time...
"We had one of those Camaro's way back when..." or "My
Uncle had a Mustang Boss 302 just like that." It was a real
thrill to see so many of them all running hard and fast
in hot competition and the spectators were loving them.

Legends of Motorsports to Return to Mont-Tremblant

Indianapolis, IN (June 16, 2011) –Legends of Motorsports has begun
its 2011 season and preparations are in high gear for the second event
of the season at Circuit Mont-Tremblant, Quebec July 8-10, 2011.
The Mont-Tremblant circuit is legendary as a world-class racing facility
and has hosted many of the world’s most famous drivers and cars.
When Legends of Motorsports returns next month, the list of cars
and competitors will recall some of the storied history of the circuit.

As part of the Legends of Motorsports weekend, a group of Historic
Trans-Am racers will be returning to Mont-Tremblant for the first
time since the early 1970’s.. These iconic racecars originally raced
in the late 60’s and early 70’s in the Trans-American Sedan
Championship Series which had the Mont-Tremblant circuit on its
calendar and included drivers from IndyCar, Sports Cars and Can-Am.
In their heyday, these cars thrilled racing enthusiasts and changed
America’s mainstream automobile marketing with Detroit’s battle
cry of “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday”. More than 25 of these
Trans-Am cars that have been restored to original racing specifications
will be raced competitively by members of the “Historic Trans-Am
Group” during the event weekend at Mont-Tremblant.

Legends of Motorsports’ visit to Circuit Mont-Tremblant will feature
a total of 13 different car categories aside from the special Historic
Trans-Am reunion. Participants from around North America will be
gathering to compete in such categories as Historic Grand Prix,
Classic Monoposto, Thunder and Lightning Production Cars, Formula
Libre, Formula 5000, Can-Am, Sports 2000 and USRRC.

Bob Bailey is one such competitor who will be putting his Porsche 911
to the test in the Thunder and Lightning category after originally
racing at Tremblant in 1968. “It is going to be great to bring that
car back to the track after 43 years,” said Bob Bailey. “This car has
been restored exactly as the car raced in 1968 and I can’t wait to
join Legends of Motorsports at Mont-Tremblant and experience this
legendary circuit once again and of course drive that great 1968
Porsche.”

Tickets for Legends of Motorsports at Mont-Tremblant are only available
on-site during the event weekend. Fans can purchase their tickets at
the circuit’s entry gate and then enjoy first-hand the sights and sounds
of these iconic racing machines on the legendary Mont-Tremblant circuit.
Tickets to the Legends of Motorsports weekend include free paddock
access which offers fans an opportunity to get up close and experience
firsthand the legacy and history behind the remarkable cars and
participants as well as the opportunity to see these legendary cars
in action on the track during class specific races.

Re: Legends Of Motorsports 2011 Edition, Le Circuit July 8-1

Post by T360 »

The 2011 edition of Bobby Rahal's Legends of Motorsports was
even better than last years due to the wide array of vintage race
cars similar to last years, but with the addition of the very popular
SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Trans Am class with vehicles
dated primarily between 1966 to 1972.

Of all the vehicles included in Trans Am, the ones based on the production
versions of Mustang, Camaro, Javelin, Challenger, Firebird, Cougar and
Barracuda are the most recognizable to spectators as these cars have
not only been seen for decades on the streets of North America, but in
all likelihood, been owned at one point or another by a very large percentage
of their fans who still have tremendous loyalties to their "brand".

The distinctive sound of 23 American V-8 powered vintage race cars added to
the uniqueness of this historic gathering and it was clearly evident that there
was a lot of horsepower gathered together to contest for the win.

Sunday's Trans Am Feature ran right after the vintage Formula 1 group
and as they lined up behind the fence the rumble of radical V-8's promised
that hot action was about to start.

Cars were let out for the formation lap in their qualifying order so it was
neat to see the Javelin up front as it turned out to be the only American
Motors entry in the event.
