B) This is this morning, adjacent to South Resort Base.

Yesterday, at 5:30 P.M. there was only about 1/3 rd of this amount
on the table. The interesting thing about this pic. is the way the wind
worked overnight. A close look shows the deck rails with less snow
than the table. This difference is related to how the wind came over
the building and how it lay the snow down on the large flat surface,
but blew it off the small narrow surface. Think of the table as some of
Tremblant's Trails, think of the deck rail as "trees"

In this very crude, anecdotal and non-scientific analysis,
all you have to do is add these samples up and you know
it's going to be a fabulous day here at Tremblant!

The Official, statistical record shows 22 CM or 9 inches of
fresh new snow over the past 24 hours.

Due to the wind velocities and the variable wind directions
occurring throughout the night at the same time the snow
was falling, it is difficult to say exactly where it is until we
get up to the Summit.

There will be tons of it in places, and windblown in others,
but there will definitely be more everywhere. Even the windblown
zones will have retained snow along the trail edges, so what you
may find initially are drift features in the form of "shadows" of either
tree or land contours that extend out in random patterns that were
dependant on the way the wind was acting in that precise spot.

In the sheltered zones, or areas that were in the "Lee" of the
wind, you'll find a more even distribution of snow, and there
will be entire sectors of acres and acres that will have
more than the totals due to this same type of "Shadow"
effect, but to a much larger scale because those whole zones
were not subjected to direct wind blast.

This is going to be a fun day for experts!
It's going to be a fun day for Intermediates!
It's going to be a fun day for Beginners too!

Mountain Crews will have the usual selection of groomed
trails for all skill levels, but the real treat is going to be for
primarily Expert Skiers/Boarders who consider fresh, deep
powder snow as the "Holy Grail" of desirable conditions on
the un-groomed natural trails.

Today's Weather...

Sunny, with partial cloudy periods and -15 C.

The Kicker for today is the wind. Forecasted to be moderate Westerly,
at 9 KMPH we can tell you for a fact, that the "Speed" portion of the
forecast is WRONG!

We've got, from time to time, howling gusts that are blasting
around, above and all over the place, so there may be lulls
in the wind speed, but the peaks of wind speed are a lot more.

This highly variable wind means close attention is going to need
to be given to your exterior "envelope" that keeps heat in
and cold blasting winds out. Make sure your envelope is tight
and you'll be comfortable. Any gaps or looseness and you'll
freeze your butt off.

T360 Apres Ski... @ 6:55 P.M.

Wind, Snow, Sun, In That Order.

Those were the dominant characteristics of the day and we
put the wind there in the first spot because it was a wicked
wind, wicked fast, and wicked pervasive.

As the wind gusted and swirled, there was the odd lull, in those
moments, Tremblant's views came though to remind you
how beautiful things are here.

There was wind everywhere except for, "we don't know where",
little sheltered spots, that may or may not have existed.

That wicked little wind seemed like it was blowing up every single run.
It was quite unusual, but Tremblant was effected by very unusual
sets of localized turbulence that virtually every sector was subjected to...

Usually if it's blasting wind on one side or in one sector, you can move on
any find quieter zones, but that did not seem possible today. That nasty little
wind seemed to follow us around all day, except it didn't seem like it was
following, it definitely felt like we were facing into it on every run.
North, South, Soleil, were all met with a frequently periodic, very strong
uphill winds.

Whatever snow we got did not have the most ideal retention rate because that nasty
wind blew a lot of it right into the bush. There were areas that filled in, there were
drifting features, but we did not get as much lay down on the ground snow as we
would have if there was not the high speed wind.

Here's todays version of the Banzai Glade shot we ran yesterday, you can see
the tracks going through it on the left side of the pic have been filled in, but
there's not much evidence of any increase in depth or in the trees.

One of the most unusual rides up was the middle to top portion of the Lowell Thomas
Triple Chair. The wind swirl on the ground looked like small tornados or mini cyclones,
or something like that. It was if Mother Nature just decided to start "Huffing and Puffing"
all over the place at once. If you look just below the Chair in front of us, you can
see one of these blustery wind puffs blasting right up the side of this Rope Tow
terrain feature. If you happened to crest at the same time as one of these
puppies comes up the other way, some of them had enough energy to push
you around a bit.

Don't know what the actual Summit temp was but it was the wind that made it
uncomfortable if you were not properly bundled up. We stopped to get the camera
in and out of pocket several times and within seconds, bare hands could feel
accelerated cold brought on instantly by this annoying, persistent little wind.

The Skiing was superb, there were a very few slick or glitch zones.

Even though the Snowfall Retention was maybe less than ideal, the
snow being blown over the surface at very high speed was filling in
tracks almost instantly in places. That made it feel like "Just Groomed"
in many areas.

We took a few breaks just to get some feeling back in the toes, but we can say
with absolute certainty that if the pesky, annoying wind had been less, the day
and the temps would have been somewhat easier. That's our fault to a degree
though, because we have to take gloves off to press tiny camera buttons
and it was not ideal for bare skin exposure.

The quality of the skiing saved the day, because
ripping off hundreds, maybe thousands of snaky, carving, slalom
turns, or blasting the Powder and the Drifts where they were found
was super fun with almost 100% traction and edge hold. Any amount
of that and you could even forget the cold 'n wind... temporarily.

It was not easy for everyone. Skill Sets and Garment Systems ruled the Day,
and you needed both to go much beyond the blue's or to stay comfy.
There was a lot of tracked and loose, un-groomed evident, and it will take
a couple days to kinda sort through it all.

While the stats say one thing, the mountain shows us another, more variable
picture, still a very good one though. Every day forward will see advancements
in Groomed Terrain Refinements and we definitely have more snow.
