according to forecasters, up-coming snowy Tremblant.
Today's Skiing/Boarding are going to be a continuation of
Very Very Fine as the cool, steady sub-zero temps and
recent fresh snow get refinement from the nightly Grooming
efforts of Mountain Crews.
Morning Web Cam Snap Shot... We recently wrote....
"Show Us The Snow Mother Nature... (please)", and while we
did not get quite the huge blizzard amount in a single perfect snow
storm, we did get over the last week a solid foot of fresh new snow
on an incremental basis.
As much as we would have appreciated the "powder day", we'll
take a foot of snow over a week anytime, and Thank You Very
Much, Mother Nature!
It looks like this week could be a repeat of that incremental increase.
Let's start with todays Weather Network chart...
This looks interesting... (If there's a "kicker" in this above forecast for today, it's the wind.
A strong Easterly wind can affect the Summit of Duncan, but at this
stage, there's no indication of anything unusual. At these temps with
these wind velocities, you will want to bundle up and seal off air gaps
around wrists, neck, head, waist etc.)
Then, moving on to the 5 day....
This looks interesting too.... As you can see by the possible snowfall totals along the chart bottom lines,
we have the potential of a very nice Natural Snow "Instalment Plan".
We'll take it any way we can get it...
For beginners and intermediates, it's better this way anyway, because
having to deal with a foot or more of deep snow as we did one day last
season on Nansen from top to bottom, is not easy, despite all the fun
we had with it. In the "Instalment Plan", of gradual daily accumulations,
Mountain Crews get to integrate the smaller individual amounts into the
base every day which actually has a big advantage besides being easier...
Plywood.... think about this... imagine each days accumulation as a layer
compressed by Grooming into a stack of layers, like plywood, as opposed to
trying to take one big dump and pack that into one thick slab. Layers win,
at least in terms of structural bonding and strength/durability, every time.
Regardless, there are aspects of accumulation we can appreciate either way,
we're just thrilled to be able to speculate about how we like to get our snow at
Tremblant when many areas South of us could be getting no snow at all,
or even worse, rain. The possibility exists that we could have a bit of that
ourselves, but odds are less chance here than anywhere South.
This is when Tremblant's more Northerly Latitude and tendency toward
cooler temps can make a huge difference when there can be "Tipping Points"
with the ambient daily temps anywhere near the freezing mark and we're far
enough North to stay on the cool side for Snow.
Nothing the Variable Weather will do in the near future will diminish
the fantastic coverage we have here now though, there's still way too
much snow on the ground. The Mountain's Internal Frosty Cold Storage
from all those Nights and some Days of -30's and -20's C back in the
dead of winter is one of our best friends now as the frost is so deep
into the Mountain that it will take weeks and weeks for any amount of
warm to make a difference.
If you're a regular reader here, you'll recall we talked about "Transitions"
a few days ago, and how being prepared for all possibilities will get you
a long way towards making every day a great day, so keep that in mind
and be prepared.
