Early Apres Ski Edit... @ 6:15 P.M.

When It's This Snowy...
People Jump Into Action At Tremblant!

It's Snowing Very Hard At Tremblant Right Now.

On All 4 Sides Too, but the North is being favoured due to
Wind Direction.

The rate of Snowfall might be 2 or 3 Cm's Per Hour in
areas of peak concentration. There are definitely Squall
Zones of heavier, more rapid accumulations moving over the
Mountain Propelled by a Vicious Wind, with Really Vicious Gusts
at the Summit .... Awesome Mother Nature At Work.

Absolutely impossible to tell how it's going to end up, but if it
keeps going at this rate, there will be a lot.

There are Trail Side North Locations with over 1 foot drifts
by 2:30 P.M.

It was snowing/blowing so hard up there that it would coat the camera
lens in seconds with swirling vortex's. There was the odd Mini-Funnel/Tornadic
action.

Very Impressive Mother Nature.

Definitely more later, but probably not 'til 9:30-->>10:00 P.M.
Have to shovel the driveway and other chores...

--------------------------------------------------------------

9:40 A.M. Update:

The Wind has settled down to a more steady pattern.
There are still gusty periods, but the peak velocities appear
to have subsided. The Snowfall continues in a range of big fat fluffy
flakes to smaller particle sized and it is occurring primarily in squall
like intermittent periods of fairly intense snowfall.

95(*) Open Trails At Wintery Tremblant.

Every once in a while, like about 2 or 3 minutes or so...
The wind shrieks....
the rest of the time, it just howls....

wow...

All 95 of 95 Trails are Officially Open, but we would not be
surprised if there were Lift "Isssues" due to safety and
wind generated difficulties.

That being said, the wind is also carrying a tremendous amount of Snow
with it here(adjacent to the Resort South Side Base), so wind or not, Snow
is always welcome.

"That Being Said" ... Point # 2: There will ALWAYS be wind sheltered
zones at Tremblant.
Regardless of statistical wind velocity data, the
Nature of Tremblant's 4 sides means that there will always be sectors
that are in the "Lee" or sheltered side as opposed to the "Frontal Facing"
sectors.

Go find 'em!

Here's a sample... Beautiful quiet Snowfall, while on the "Other" side
the wind could just about push you up the hill....

exactly the same thing today.

Spreads Like Butter, Skis Like Satin, Very Very Fine...
and that was based on the addition of the extremely small
frozen particles which were technically speaking "snow"
because the were definitely not "rain".

With the big, fat, fluffy Snowfall that's going on at this precise moment,
that can only mean things will be better.

Any Time There's A Southerly Directional Wind Component...
particularly with a Gulf Of Mexico originated system as we have now,
there's a large probability of Orographic Snowfall that can
generate localized Blowing Drifting and Accumulation rates
substantially greater than the statistical totals either actual,
or forecast.

Oh Yeah... we love that....

Next thing to do is go out and find it!

This is a Macro Sample of how the Snow could be found
in the trees right below the Summit yesterday. Please scroll
this image over and look at the bottom right corner. That's where
you'll see the predominantly dry, cotton like form that most of
our recent snow has been like.

While it does show a tendency to form an icy component in the trees,
that never made it to the ground. With temps today currently a little bit
lower than forecasted, we expect that the snow that's coming right this
second will stay all "snow" and we hope to bring you Apres Ski pic's this
eve. that will illustrate the new additions on a "Before and After" basis.

Step away from the computer and put yourself in this picture as
soon as possible. We don't get winters like this every year, so
do what you have to, but try to make it back for this.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived index pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

( If You "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate, current to
25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by consecutive date.)

T360 Apres Ski....

How Much Snow Is There?

We don't have any idea what the total, statistically speaking, is....
...or will be.

There are way too many variables involving the dynamic of such active
weather. Shifting directions and speeds combine to create an extremely
unpredictable outcome as Tremblant is literally surrounded by whipping,
whirling, twirling vortices of heavy localized Snow Squalls.

We can tell you that we found North Side Drifting as high as 30 CM or
1 foot in several places, but most commonly right alongside Trail edges
or adjacent to land contours that facilitated wind borne snow deposits.

A good example... The way the wind was moving the snow, there was a
10-15 CM powder line down the left hand side of P'tit Bonheur after lunch.

This Picture below is as close as we can come to illustrating the intensity
level that was encountered almost incessantly, during the day.

Many of the North Park Users were either wearing or using GoPro
Video cameras and it's quite common to see helmets with more than
one camera fastener, so evidently, the level of You-Tube postings
is probably increasing daily.

In One of the Quieter Moments, turns made on Beauchemin
just below the entrance to the Edge show a nice depth building
as the afternoon progresses.

Mid Afternoon... The snow at this level was quite light,
dry and fluffy. There was very little resistance cruising
through it, turns were effortless and in the narrow
confines of the bottom half of MCA, trail #64, there
was even respite from the wind as this was the sheltered
sweet spot of the day.

Farther down, there were portions of surface that were very
much higher in forward resistance indicating a higher level
of moisture in the snow.

It never changed from snow though, and as opposed to yesterday's
very fine frozen particles, today's nickel/quarter sized snow flakes
did not present nearly the vision challenge of yesterday.

The Snowfall remained steady, even intense in Squall sectors, right
through to 10:00 P.M. or so on the South Base level. We had to make
a run in to St. Jovite at that time and there were sections of road
that had "White Out" conditions for 2 or 3 kilometres at a time.

We did have a slight blip into the "Plus" side temps for a few hours,
but the temps are back down well below for tonight and that may
help dry out some of the high resistance, so we think that with a
daytime temp of -7 to -9 C, things will be very "Fast" tomorrow.
