Things were looking surprisingly Cool at Tremblant today...
And we're not just talking about Fashion or Gear either,
the Mountain had a frosty topping that extended almost all
the way to the North base and partway on the South.
Surfaces were excellent "Spring" and "Fast".
Apres Ski coming right up in Reply, below.

75(*) Open Trails on 3 Sides of Tremblant...
Patient readers here will know that we ski any weather,
any weather... and sometimes we take heat for looking
to the positive aspects of whatever Mother Nature delivers
when many would discard days that don't seem ideal.
We do not apologize for making the best of any weather
and this pic below reminds us that perhaps just like kids,
fun is not weather dependant, with the right frame of mind.
We like to pass by the North Park Top Jump after lunch to get a few
trick shots and yesterdays weather seemed to be keeping folks away
as we waited several minutes for people to show up when usually
there's an almost continuous stream. Just as we were ready to pack
up and head off, we saw this little person coming down and decided to
see what he could do.
Most kids this size simply ride over this feature and never leave the
ground, but obviously, this tiny person has done this before and we
were very surprised to see the hight, form and skill demonstrated.
Bravo!
This reminds us that Kids don't need to have perfect weather to have fun,
they'll play happily in mud, snow, rain, shine or whatever, if you let them.
For the most part they don't have the adult prerequisites for perfect this,
or that, to find the simple pleasures of activity. We would like to think we
still have that child-like ability to enjoy being active whatever the weather
brings. If Tremblant is Open, we want to ski, regardless.
The reassuring part for us is that with a very little bit of preparation,
we've never had a "bad" day at Tremblant, or any other Ski area, for
that matter in decades.
We've also found that despite questionable weather at base levels,
once on the Mountain, 95% of the time, things are just fine, and a
lot easier to handle than may have been thought.
We'd like to encourage one and all to keep that child-like openness
to having fun no matter what, and just get out and have fun anyway.
Within a few minutes additional North Park Participants appeared,
so here is a "Big Person" jumper to show scale comparison to the
little person above. Some of the North Park jumpers get serious
air off this M sized kicker. Sorry for the burned up image, but we had to blast the highlights
and contrast to get any detail through the dense Cloud atmosphere
which is not great for pic's.
Conditions:
As Far as Groomed Trails...
Surface conditions should be better than yesterday, simply because
it was below freezing all night and that hopefully will have dried out,
firmed up, and solidified at least some, if not most of the softness out
of the trails that were freshly groomed last night. It did not get all that
cold, so we're expecting firm, not icy. There may be some icy sectors
where land contours allow a buildup to occur in dips and swoops, but
those could change from moment to moment depending on what the temp's
do today.
This is a repeat of one of last eve's Apres Ski pic's. Sissy Schuss on
Versant Nord has been delightful throughout this entire period of
weather drama and we've spent hours on it, lapping with extreme
slalom carving at as many as 8 laps per hour. Excellent, excellent
exercise, not to mention outrageously good fun!
Groomed Trail Sample. On Natural, Un-Groomed Trails....
There we may have some wild card factors and time will tell, so
we'll have to let you know on those...
This is an Expo sample from yesterday and you can see that
there are bare spots beginning to show under the chair. The main
width of the run which was built using "Big Bump" snowmaking
months ago is holding up very well.
We do hear reports of bare spots that can be found on all sectors,
but that's to be expected with this weather. Mountain Crews may
be able to rebuild some of them, but let's not forget that stat's wise
anyway, we should get more snow too.
Altogether, and despite any local vision issues,
it should be another day of "Fast".
