Right now....

It's Zero Degrees Celsius, or 32 Degrees F, right on the freezing
mark at the South Resort Base. We like that very much as it certainly
means that at over 2000 Vertical feet higher, the Summit sectors
will be cooler, usually by 4 degrees C, plus or minus a bit.

Anything that defers, puts off, delays, stops, reverses, counteracts or
otherwise slows down the effects of the previous days heat is welcome.

Hopefully in last evenings transition from the daytime heat to the nights
cool, the moisture that may have been sitting on the surface will have been
wicked off the top to leave us with a firmer dryer surface for at least a few
hours after opening this morning.

Therefore, we predict some very sweet Spring Skiing/Boarding for the
early morning hours.

Philosophy du Jour.

"Go Now If you Can..."

These are the days when the serious Tremblant Alpine Winter Sports
People make every effort they can to get out because they know how
precious every single opportunity is as the season enters into the final
remaining weeks.

The truly serious and dedicated Tremblant fans are not concerned about
the Open trail count as much either. They respect the professional decisions
of the Ski Patrol and Mountain Crews and they make the best of what is
available on the open list with all the enthusiasm of those who know
that the real Spring, with Green grass and Leaves on trees, will come
soon enough.

"Go now if you can...." These are words that we say frequently because we
mean them. We mean them for a variety of reasons, including, but not
limited to, very fine conditions, recent fresh snow, or, as in this case, the
opportunities are becoming fewer as the season draws to a close. We never
take a single day on the Slopes for granted, each one is as unique as a
fingerprint, but simultaneously offers the same benefit of exercise, fresh air,
challenge and the thrill of participation when applied skills can master
conditions and the rewards of accomplishment are felt after every run.

"Go now if you can" Words that every passionate Skier/Boarder understands
from the very first, to the very last day of every season.

With the above "Mindset" in place, we can move onto today's specifics
beyond initial Opening hours, to the dominant heat factor that will be
unavoidable by about 11:00 a.m. onward.

It's gunna be really freakin' Hot again! Whew... dare we say California,
Lake Tahoe Style, "Bikini" Ski Weather, like the last two days?...

Oh Yeah..... +20 C forecasted daytime high, and that could be zapped
if the forecasters are off at all, which they've been pretty good at recently,
so there's a strong chance that we could see more.

You're not going to need a lot on for today, except Sunscreen!

Are your Bases Waxed or Coated for "Warm"??? It will make a huge
difference to your performance capability, so if you can make it out,
don't let hydrodynamic drag hold you back or even worse, reduce the
runs you can make. Get this basic utility function done NOW!

Yesterday we mentioned "Skiing in the Shadows" as often being the
best option for sustained speed on high resistance, high ambient moisture
snow surfaces. Going back through our file pic's, here's one from last
Thursday, riding up Duncan, and looking back over the Devils River
entrance. The Shadows and the fastest surface conditions were one and
the same, a typical example of "Spring".

Beach Weather Ski Conditions!
Sunny, Hot, But We're Still Skiing!

-------------------------------------------------------------
Apres Ski Edit...

The forecasted high temp for today was about 4 to 5 degrees C
short of the actual which reached an Official 25 degrees C.

We figured as much. The solar energy has been so intense that
the actual temps have exceeded the forecast for the past 3 days.
So, with what's going on to the South of us that's been moving North
every day on this wonky jet stream gone crazy, it seemed reasonable
that it would continue that way today, and it did.

As much as all of us fanatic Tremblant Winter Alpine Ski/Board freaks
would wish otherwise, we are not exempt from the laws of physics.
You just can't have such overwhelming thermal force without a reduction
in snow after days and days. Normally, we'd be happy to accept that
in May.... Time to launch the Hobie Cat and go Sailing... in May, not March.

We're not sure how the Open Trail numbers are going to look tomorrow.
There are lots of areas that are becoming "Tender" and there are a
surprising number of stable areas too, but Mountain Crews and the Ski
Patrol will be doing their best to keep as much open as possible, so
all we can do is hang in there.

Normally, we'd all be able to see the Tremblant.ca Preview Snow Report
for "Tomorrow", that's usually published for the next day, just after lunch
hour on Tremblant.ca, however, we've not had the benefit of that report
today as it has not been published up to this hour (11:00 P.M.), and we
think that may be because there are too many variables in Base depth
and un-seen snow surface erosion to predict with the usual certainty.
We think that it may take Crews and the Patrol to get out there at 5:00 A.M.
and asses the realities before making up the Open Trail list.

No one is more motivated to keep terrain open than Tremblant Mountain
Operations and we're confident they will have as much on the list as is
safely possible.

As faithful Tremblant Fans, all we can do is hang in there on a day by day
basis.

On a brighter, more hopeful note, the long range forecast is now showing
a return to more seasonal temperature values in about 72 hours from now.
We'd like to think or hope that those predictions would be realized, but given
the accuracy of long forecasts recently, we may all feel slightly skeptical
until Temps actually start dropping.
