11/24/12 Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

Apres Ski Early Edit/Intro @ 7:11 P.M....

What you need to know about Tremblant...

Let's start with this....

The Snow Rolled Into Tremblant This Afternoon
Like A Freight Train With No Brakes !!!

South, North, East, West... The whole Mountain was seeing vigorous
snow squall activity that started around lunch.

Mountain Crews had some of the Big Guns fired up too, so
there's a good possibility that some good depths could
be built up overnight with Mother Natures contributions.

Conditions wise...

After yesterdays "warm", todays "cold" predictably created icy conditions
in places to start with. The degree that affected your Skiing or Boarding was
directly proportional to the condition of your edges. Those effects were
more apparent in the morning before all the snow started falling.

After the snow started, conditions became more forgiving as the top layer
of fresh began to accumulate.

Exactly how much more will Mother Nature add to the total?

Tomorrow will be a very interesting day and we anticipate refined
surfaces and good Skiing/Boarding for this still very early stage of the season.

We hope to have more Apres Ski detail a bit later on(may or may not
be possible), but the essence of the whole situation is that if you can get out,
you should.

Tremblant is definitely way ahead of schedule in developed terrain and to loose
any opportunity to benefit from that would be a shame, so load the vehicle
up tonight, and plan to head out early.

This will definitely help the transition from Opening Day warm
to last nights cool and resulting "Firm" surfaces. Together with
the overnight grooming that Mountain Crews will have done
surface conditions should be good. We'll confirm that with
"field testing" and update further.

Not sure how long it will keep up, but we appreciate every single
flake, so we'll take anything along the way.

----------------------------------------------------------

Anyone who's a serious Tremblant Fan knows by now that this
seasons sequence of Opening days features Full Mountain Vertical
access on the South Side, skiable right down to the Resort via
Beauvallon or Nansen/Mi Chemin/Beauvallon to Johannsen.

As if this outstanding and very rare occurrence was not enough,
over on the North, the Lowell Thomas Sector has "Rope Tow" open
down to La Traverse, as well as Beauchemin Haut, Upper,
Lowell Thomas Haut, upper and P'tit Bonheur on line for a total
array of open terrain that we have not experienced in...
many years,
decades,
or maybe even, ever.

The fortunate coincidence of an extended stretch of well below zero
overnight low temp's allowed Mountain Crews to commence Snowmaking
back on November 4th. By Opening morning, we could see that their
work was going to pay off big time for all enthusiastic Tremblant Fans
who anxiously await the first day of Alpine Snow Sports after a long
summer off.

This is what we've been doing for the last 2 days...

If you're a regional Tremblant Fan, we have to ask... Why would you
be sitting at home watching the wind blow leaves across the green grass
when you could be out doing this ???

On top of all this Open Terrain good news, we've had this little added bonus...
Sunshine!

its way back.)

Today's Weather, Ski/Board Conditions...

We were officially forecasted to have some snow in the wee early
morning hours before sunrise, then partially sunny. That seems to have
changed now to a primarily overcast outlook with chance of snow
flurries on and off during the day.

Temps at base level are supposed to float around the -1C mark,
moving down a couple of degrees during the day, maybe, then
a nice solid -8C overnight, so we would not be surprised to see
some Snowmaking tonight to freshen things up and restore
some surface area.

Winds are supposed to be moderate and from the West, so coming
up Beauvallon and across the Summit towards Lowell Thomas, but
we think that could be quite variable with a little gusty behaviour,
given the way this system seems to be moving quickly.

Ski/Board conditions will have a mix of fairly soft surfaces with
occasional firm, potentially icy substrates, but most likely Mountain
Crews will have groomed it from yesterday so it should be quite smooth.
You'll just need to scope out your trail selections carefully for the first
runs to verify traction levels and regulate speed accordingly.

With anything "Firm" in the conditions, fresh sharp edges will benefit
control capabilities.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
