3/4/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

91(*)Open Trails on the KKKKKkkkooll, 4 Snow White Sides Of Tremblant.

Early 5:19 A.M. Start here today due to “Out of Office Chores”

There is no doubt that from Hudson’s Bay to Atlanta Georgia, U.S.A.,
the dominant factor in the daily Weather Story for much of the whole
Continent is the unusually Southerly Extension of the Arctic Polar Vortex.

The Overnight Low Temp has blown the forecast away and at -32 C
for the 4th of March, is slightly double the 30 year historic average
for this date.

Consequently, and due to the fact that we conduct our Favourite Winter
Alpine Snow Sports outdoors, this overwhelming cold weather factor is
also the dominant factor in Surface Conditions. But… it’s not a negative
factor, as you’ll see below.

It’s not that we’ll be Skiing in -32 C temp’s either. By the time the Sun comes
up we should already have seen a rise and by 10:00 A.M. when most people
seem to get on the Mountain, it should be somewhere in the minus mid-teen’s.

The Dominant Surface Conditions effect of the overnight low we refer to,
is going to be the Cryogenic “Freeze Dried” characteristics of the Snow on
the Open Trails. We are forecasting that will render quite possibly the finest,
High Performance Carving we ever see at Tremblant, today.

Nothing Shred's Like “Squeaky” Cold Snow.

The combination of Potential Speed and Grip qualities will only be limited by
the Muscle you have to execute control inputs.

If you are a Seasonal “Frequent Flyer” i.e., you are well conditioned fitness
wise with multiple days on the Mountain so you’ve actually built up a bit of
the “Muscle” previously mentioned… Today will be a day of Extraordinary
Performance. …and, if the forecast holds, so will the next 2 weeks!

When you Dream about Skiing in the Off-Season...
today is the kind of day that your brain runs on “Replay”.

Even though the afternoon High Temp is supposed to reach -11C, these
Cryogenic, Super Cold Performance Qualities will last all day. That could
make this afternoon potentially the Best Of Season, so far, and on par
with any other historic “Best Of Season” you can think of or imagine.

Regional Tremblant Fans: Play “Hooky”(**) from any
and everything, and go to Tremblant for the afternoon if you can.

(** -as in unauthorized absence)

It will be a TON Warmer…
...and the very sweetest Skiing/Boarding you can imagine.

There’s not a damn thing we can do about the Weather, and long
term readers here will know how we feel about Positive Adaptations
and Attitudes, so lets hit the Slopes, Folks… and make the best of the
situation.

Besides… the daytime temps aren’t really all that cold. Minus 11 with
lots of Sun is not a difficult afternoon for Skiers/Boarders.

The Advantages Of The Current Cold Weather To Tremblant.

Frost into the Mountain, which acts as a long term Cold Storage
Reserve that will give the packed Trail Base enhanced durability.

There will be those who simply think of it as the Base, however the Frost
into the Mountain is separate and very distinct from the Alpine Trail Packed
Snow Base.

For example, you can have a shallow Frost under a thick Base, because
of rapid early season snow pack that acts as a blanket over the Mountain.
The problem there is the Snow Base is very sensitive then because there’s
less cold storage below to keep the Snow Temp stable when Thermal
“Spring” activity happens.

Frost Penetration Depth is directly proportional to the durability of the Base,
the more, the better.

Weather Scientists are estimating that in many Ground Level Elevations
the penetration of the Frost Depth into the ground is going to be roughly
double what it might normally be by the middle of March.

Tremblant’s Upward Projecting Conical Shape may even be experiencing
a higher degree of Frost penetration, so even when “Spring” finally decides
to show up, it will take weeks and weeks before any form of heat can
deteriorate much of a loss of coverage.

We’re going to have an Excellent Spring Season here at Tremblant.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
