T360 Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct @ 9:00 P.M.
We Were Wrong...
And/Or the Forecast was Wrong...
And/Or Mother Nature Had Other Plans...
Forecast: Sunny??? Maybe somewhere, but other than very brief
glimpses of transient brightness, it was never outright “Sunny” and
this one immediately below is about as much sun as we saw...

The Temps never had any Solar benefit, so they stayed low.

There was daytime Snowmaking across the whole Summit
to take advantage of the temps.

We were wrong about the degree of softness we anticipated. The temps on
the Mountain remained well below freezing all day and in the absence of any
solar assistance, thermal softening influence was nil.

Above: For the most part, about 70% as a rough estimate, there is a very
dry, cold granular top layer that is nicely carve-able overtop, so icy is not
encountered in that top layer, however...
Below: After the recent barrage of rainy warm weather, and the subsequent
drop to sub-zeros, the Laws of Physics have taken over... and below the machine
generated top layers, the substrates are icy.

This Person above exemplifies the “Smooth” needed for today. Speed is O.K.
as long as you are alone in the space you’re in, but extra room and time may
be necessary for manoeuvres.
Sudden, jerky, forceful control inputs are NOT Appropriate... Smooth, seamless,
subtle edging and control inputs are what’s needed when there is any degree
of “Slick” underfoot. No “Jammers”, Thank You Very Much...
There are sectors of wear exposed icy base, so Fresh, Sharp, Edges
are essential for optimum control because encountering them is a bit
unpredictable as daily traffic passages increase.
For the first time in a long time, we unfortunately have to report that
where the coverage is thin, there are some sections where there are
scattered rocky debris on and just below the surface. Our Ski bases are
showing marks from unavoidable contacts. This was more noticeable on
the upper sections of Beauvallon. Thankfully, there is Snowmaking going
on in that area tonight, so we hope that’s all different by the morning.
This “Rocky Debris” reference is not a criticism, just an observation, and to
put it in perspective, we think it’s a miracle things are as good as they are,
furthermore, it is entirely realistic to expect some of these natural hazards
after the almost unimaginably erosive effects of recent Warm and Rain
when a lot of nearby Ski/Board areas are still closed.
The point is... watch out for hazard areas and as soon as you spot them...
SLOW DOWN if you want to protect your gear by cautious avoidance.

With the whole Mountain staying below zero tonight, we get the first
big Grooming Refinement, plus Snowmaking, PLUS... in the Old Village
adjacent to the South Resort Base, it’s SNOWED NATURAL SNOW by about
2 cm’s @ 9:45 P.M., so maybe there’s some of that on the slopes too.

The Bottom Line(s) Continue To Be...
We’re luckier at Tremblant than about 90% of all the other Ski/Board areas
around here. Mountain Crews here are doing a Heroic job of keeping Trails
as well as can be possibly conceived.
We are thrilled to be Skiing when so many of the regional Sporting fraternity
are making the National News Broadcasts playing Golf today.

and worse... Rain, Tremblant seems set to come out on the Sunny Side,
as that’s whats forecast for today!

Carving par Excellence!
These are the types of conditions we’re going to be out there looking for
and we think all the signs are pointing to a very, very fine day on the
slopes of Tremblant!
Weather Notes:
Now then, here’s The Weather Network’s hourly forecast data for today,
and frankly, it’s just about the nicest day we’ve had in a week.

We ran the forecast data above in our Apres Ski for yesterday and it has not
changed for several hours, so we hope we’re going to be good to go on this one.
Conditions Notes:
There should be a vast majority of very fine, Sweet Spot Carving within the
Groomed surfaces, however...
With a Sunrise temp at -3C, surfaces could be very “Firm”, even solid in places,
but with a wee bit of solar, and a wee rise to Zero, the soft may come in fairly
quickly when it does appear.
High performance carving should be at the very highest grip du Jour
levels by shortly after lunch, especially on the Sunny South.
------------- Conditions Caveat(s) ---------------
1) First thing this morning, while there’s any of that -3C “Solid” around,
take care with speed. “Icy Bits” and “Braking” do not work well in the same
sentence, let alone out on the slopes, SO BE CAREFUL on initial explorations.
2) Temp Rises at Zero C with Solar added, can cause Mogul formations and
consequent mogul size increase. Skill levels needed may be greater, however
safety for all Skiers/Boarders is enhanced by Speed Reduction in these zones.

The “SNOWY” part of the above means that Extra Time And Extra Caution
planning will be necessary for regional commuters driving Apres Ski tomorrow.
It could also mean the Skiing/Boarding for the forecasted Sunny Sunday
could be Exceptionally Fine, Maybe even the "Best Day of the Season”, so far???
