T360 Early Eve. Apres Ski, Progressive Construct, started at 6:30 P.M.

Here is a good start to what you need to know about Tremblant Today...

There’s a distant, small Sign you can see under close examination in the top, right corner.
It says... Nansen Bas.

It’s a pretty good Tremblant day when you can still find powder lines
on Trail Edges at “Last Run”.

We were wrong about one thing in our annotated Weather Data below,
Weather Wise... It was not so “Easy” as we’d have liked. The Wind just
about blew your heat out East to Labrador. Wow, that part needed exacting
detail paid to Outer Layer Seals. Even thought the temps were not crazy cold,
the wind made it feel that way sometimes. Then there were other times when
you found a calm spot that seemed almost Mild, and that’s when you knew the
temps were not all that bad.

Above:
Performance Wise... It was mostly as we expected, a considerable rise upwards
in average Trail Quality, however blowing and drifting snow certainly did make
some zones “Thick”, and as that got tracked up there were areas of uneven
forward resistance, particularly where accumulations were along trail side tree lines.

The Newly Groomed Nord, North Side Devils River was a typical example of that.
All the big bumps are Groomed out, but there were fairly deep Tracks down both
edges and a comparatively bare centre. This shot below from mid-afternoon is
taken towards the bottom of Devils River where it narrows, but the tracked soft
powder ran almost all the way down the left Trail side(descending), indicating the
lee-side wind induced drift pattern on this run.

Apres Ski Continued Below in “Reply”....

Adding more here gradually during the Evening,
but it truly was a day of “Winter” ambience.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 1/13/16 Apres Ski Continued...

The most comfortable place today to make Weather Observations was from the warmth
of the Summit’s Grand Manitou Lodge overlooking the Resort Side and Lac Tremblant.
No Camera on the face of Earth could adequately capture the scope or contrast of
this scene below. Shooting Pic’s through double pane sheet glass adds to deficiencies
in current photography technologies as well, but it comes close enough for illustration
purposes and we can tell you for a fact that being on the outside of the glass in this
case would have been bordering on painful in a matter of seconds. The wind on the
other side of this glass was howling like a Lonely Wolf as it streams past the corners
of the building in an awesome demonstration of Mother Natures absolute Winter grip,
exactly the way it has from the past Pre-Cambrian 4 Billion Winters ’til now...

...and our Brit cousins think we have no “History” here... au contraire, with all due
respect Brit Cousins, we have the richest, oldest Geological History on Planet Earth,
right here at Tremblant, in the heart of the Great Canadian Pre-Cambrian Shield...
Arguably, when you stand here, you stand on the oldest rock on Earth.

Bundling up and heading back out...

Very Unusual Light Conditions... produced a number of “Spooky” ghost-like,
Planet Blue, Backlit scenes.

The route to the Beauvallon/Nansen side of Versant Sud, South Side La Crete
was detoured to the lower P’tit Bonheur access path directly funnelled into upper
Nansen. The Snow Cloud/Fog was so thick in places it was difficult to see your own
Ski tips.

Vision cleared up in less than 100 Metres of Vertical Descent, just before you reach
the Nansen Haut, upper Pitch.

This is the only Versant Sud, South Side Summit Trail Sector Outdoor Pic.
you’re going to get because taking hand out of glove to operate camera
could not be tolerated more than once, and in that singular occasion,
hand could not be bare to the wind for more than 10 or 12 SECONDS
without immediate biting windchill pain.

No normal person would ever consider exposing a bare hand in this environment.
We’re used to it, to a degree, but still, bare skin frostbite damage occurs very quickly
and common sense prohibits personal injury, consequently, this one’s it on this descent.

There’s a lot of New, Scheduled, Opening Terrain Under Construction.

Sample Under Construction New Terrain:

Sissy Schuss Haut, Upper, to Fuddle Duddle, Bas, Lower.

This is Categorically(at least in our opinion), one of the very finest Learning
descent paths ever created and it is largely the same as it’s been since 1948.
All Skill Levels Can Benefit From Training In This Area.

Based on Observations of New Terrain Development Under Construction,
we think the Open Trail Count Number is set to take a solid “POP” Upwards.
There’s just too much Snow and too much trail construction as evidence.
We are not privy to any timeframes, but we think the next 10 days will be
very “Interesting”.

More in the Morning, but if you can get to Tremblant tomorrow, your benefit is
the incremental improvement that comes with every overnight Grooming cycle,
plus any newly Opened trails, over the already existing Fine Terrain.
