T360 Apres Ski Edit @ Late Eve. 10:45 P.M.

Breezy for sure, but still Great Skiing!

Opposite POV to 10:00 A.M. Morning Up-Date
in the body of the Orig. Post, Below.

The Cloud you saw intermittently over the Summit in the late morning,
moved in quite solidly just after lunch. Although there was some brightness
because it was thin, it was enough to obscure most of the view. The temp’s
began to drop too, so with the wind, a “Wintery” combination developed.

We reported Versant Nord, the North Side “La Griffe” Groomed,
so we have a Docu.Pic series on that for the Morning.

Here’s an introductory La Griffe sample
and partial draft for A.M.:

La Griffe was groomed out relatively flat, but between 20 and 30 cm’s
of very soft natural snow meant that with even light traffic, soft moguls
formed. They were very easy to either jump with or blast right through
if you needed to. The softness seemed to not have a bottom, so if
you had Good Edge and the Muscle to hold it, there was even some very
short radius carving on the smoother Trail-Sides.

As Mogul runs go, La Griffe was very “Forgiving” today.

Otherwise...

The looseness of the Top Layers was enough to generate
a bit of resistance even on Nansen and P’tit Bonheur, but that
did not in any way impede the execution of basic control motion.

Within Other respective Skill Level Groomed Terrain, there was never
any fear of “Run Away” and in certain instances, it actually
made it easier to Face the Fall Line under more controlled speed.

All of Tremblant is covered with tons of Fresh Snow, so as we
write below, it takes a couple of days to get to more optimized
surface compaction. All the Groomed will Big-Time Benefit from
Tonight’s Grooming Night-Shift as another Packing Cycle
begins to generate some resilient density in the top layers
that will become Mogul resistant.

58(*) Open Trails on Versant Sud, South, Versant Nord, North, Slopes at #Tremblant .

Today will be an Interesting and Great Day at Tremblant because...

A) Yesterday had Excellent Afternoon Snowfall over the entire Mountain to variable degrees.

There were places on Versant Nord, the North Side, that got about 30 cms,
close to 1 foot, of rapidly falling and drifted Natural Snow between Noon
and “Last Run”.

"Fuddle Duddle” Haut, Upper(#78), was an absolute Powdery Hoot yesterday!!!
Full of Expert Bumps, but they were all as soft as a Feather Pillow and very
easy to navigate with controlled speed.

We actually lost Camera Function quickly yesterday due to
overwhelming Snowfall that got the control buttons completely
coated/wet and sent it into default fail-safe shutdown mode.
The Above is an illustration captured just prior to that. The
control problem was almost secondary to the virtually impossible
task of keeping swirling snow out of the lens to begin with.
Another day of Challenging Photography, but Excellent Skiing!

Not Everywhere got that much, but everywhere got some, as wind
and topographical contours created a wide range of deposit over
the entire Alpine Trail Network.

Above: Parked on the North, we had managed to get this tranquil scene
on P’tit Bonheur’s upper entrance pitch and it’s quite clear that
there has been a quick and substantial Snowfall. Not much traffic
either, so it was possible to make consecutive runs and cross your
own tracks that were already partially filled in the 20 or so minutes
it would take to make a circuit.

For the sake of accuracy regarding yesterdays weather, there was a
brief period of sleety rain at around 11:00 A.M.(?). it lasted longer
on the South, was only Minutes on North, and none of it affected
the Open Terrain in any way. Almost as quickly as it started, it turned
to snow on the North and was quite thick and falling fast. The worst
consequence was a somewhat wet butt on Lifts, but that can come
with any snowy day anyway.

Today will be an Interesting and Great Day at Tremblant because...

B) 10:00 A.M. Up-Dates: Sunny!

For a while, anyway...

Conditions Notes:

Rapid and Thick Natural Snowfall Accumulations
can add extra challenge until Grooming fully integrates
the fresh into the Base over a couple of days.
Matching Skills to Rated Terrain is wise for safety.

Rapid and Thick Natural Snowfall Accumulations
can add extra margins of safety in Hors Piste,
Sous Bois, Glade and Un-Groomed Terrain,
however those margins can not be assumed to
be equal everywhere due to Localized Drifting.
Caution in all Un-Groomed is still warranted.

There are “Race” and “Snowmaking” Active Sectors Today.

The two Trails pictured above are McCulloch(#18, screen Left with Race
Course Setup, and Kandahar(#22, screen Right with Big Bump Snowmaking).
An adjacent Versant Sud, South Side Trail #12, Erik Guay, was Opened
with Big Bumps, as it has before, but Kandahar is usually Groomed Flat.
Perhaps not this season?

Weather Notes:

The only challenge in this forecast is the wind which will be coming
up Beauvallon and crossing the Summit towards the Lowell Thomas
side. There may be shelter below the Summit on the North. Riding up
TGV with it at your back should be O.K., but the North Lifts may seem
a bit “Breezy” as you rise up to/over the Peak Crests.

We think it’s still fair to say that Tremblant is
(+/-) 2 weeks ahead of Typical Open Terrain
at this time, so it continues to be an Outstanding
Early Season Value.

If your considering Days on the Slopes during the
Christmas and New Year Holiday period you’ll be
very pleasantly surprised with both the outright
quantity and the obvious quality, two very good
reasons to firm up those plans now.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
