T360 Apres Mid-Night, Apres Ski Highlights @ 12:05 A.M.
In yesterdays Apres Ski, we wrote:
The Winds Forecasted..."crossing the Summit from more
or less, over Duncan, towards McCulloch.”
You can see that did indeed happen... With your back to the wind,
there are straight lines of snow being pushed across the Summit
right onto the entrance of McCulloch. Mother Nature does “Linear”!
The Cool Temp’s and “Breezes” continue to support the very highest
levels of Edge-Set Grip and Speed possible. Basically, it’s “Freeze Dried”
Snow, a very dry, firmly compacted, crystalline surface that has very
little friction, but with good edges on Skis or Board, can hang on to
all the turn forces your Quad Muscles can make.
Shred This...

WOW Snowmaking New Terrain Development Up-Date.
Versant Sud, South Side, Flying Mile Sector:
Flying Mile is only one sample of one of the most aggressive Snowmaking
schedules we’ve ever seen for ANY Season at Tremblant. The benefits will
be realized in the sustained All Day, Every Day, quality of the Base wherever
these deep, thick, Snowmaking strata have been established.
For Tomorrow, Saturday Dec.23, 2017, Tremblant.ca Says...
Over 80 Open Trails!
------------------ 7:59 A.M. Orig. Post ------------------
75(*) Open Trails on Versant Sud, South, Nord, North and Soleil, At #Tremblant .
One Of The Best Places On Earth To Learn How To Ski...
Spectacular Sunny Day Panoramic's.
Has Anyone Noticed The Days Seem To Be getting Longer?
Of course that’s a Joke, but the absolute Sun Drenched ambiance
of yesterday surely seemed to make it feel longer than all the
Snowy Overcast days of recent days leading up to the Official
Start of “Winter”. With any luck, today will match that same
degree of brightness, although as this is being written, it’s not
looking quite the same.
Regardless of Brightness, There Will Be Brilliance In The Open,
Groomed Terrain. Tremblant Guests have enjoyed well over a
week of solidly “Winter” Snow Surface qualities, especially with
the last big Snowfall of 4 days ago, that have all acted to raise
the bar on comparable Mid-December Conditions to feel more
like surfaces of mid-January. It’s safe to say the whole season
so far has been “Weeks” ahead of usual.
With Only Beautifully Sub-Zero C’s in daily Temp Cycles, the Alpine
Snow Sport Trail Network Has Done Nothing But Get Bigger And Better. Period.
Snowmaking Terrain Development,
Trail Case Study, # 22, Versant Sud,
the South Side, Summit Sector, “Kandahar”.
Kandahar is definitely a Tremblant “Marquee” Trail of the Highest
Order because of its visibility right across all Local POV’s that can
see the Mountain from the St. Jovite side, but as well, by all Tremblant
Ski/Board Guests that ride up the Gondola.
Kandahar is a Summit Level, single Black Diamond Rated “Expert”
Trail due to it’s pitch angle, however it is very wide, has a very true
fall line and when Groomed to Optimal Surface Quality, we would
take a Confident Intermediate with Solid Steering and Braking Skills
onto it with supervision. Being as Wide and Flat as it usually is, it’s
a good candidate for Learning and Practicing those skills required
to advance to Steeper Terrain Challenges because there are huge
margins of space to work with.
Kandahar is also a very popular Race Training environment.
It’s easy to set Race Courses on, it has the length and consistency
of Pitch necessary to establish a great Training Rhythm, and it is
almost completely visible from top-to-bottom for Coaches to
Observe from, so it’s often put to that use.
If You’ve Got 6 Minutes Left To Make “Last Run” at the Gondola...
Kandahar(if Groomed and safe), is one of your best options for
a direct descent line as it literally runs right under the Lift.
When combined with Charron to pass the TGV Quad Base, and then
down on Beauvallon Bas, Lower, to Johannsen(for only one descent
line example), it is possible for a well conditioned Tremblant Alpine
Snow Sport Athlete to Ski or Board safely to the Resort Base in the
least amount of time using Kandahar as a starting point.
Terrain Development Versant Nord, North Side.
Here’s The One All The Locals Are Waiting For...
12.21.17.Nord.North.Base.Telephoto.View.Expo.Pitch.Snowmaking.b.jpg
There are 3 Trails side-to-side here. You can see “Cossak” on
Screen-Left, “Expo" is the one we’re directly looking at, and
“Dynamite” is off to the right. We Know Locals who only attend
when Expo is Open, so the possibility that it might be Open
from the Top for the weekend will thrill a lot of excited people!
It should be noted that Cossak had Big Bumps on it until 2 days
ago when it was Groomed Rough Cut Flat, and also, Dynamite has
had Snowmaking all the way down and over the Mid-Point cliff for
several days, so both of those Trails may be possible for weekend too?
Here below is an Overview of all 3 we ran in last nights Apres Ski.
While Expo is shown Open and Groomed on todays Official Data,
Subject To Field Work Confirmation... we think it’s actually just
Expo Bas, Lower, as you can see Groomed out to the North Base.
Weather Notes:
Conditions Notes:
Almost all the Groomed Terrain is virtually flawless.
The odd little twig or other loose debris, but so, so small
as to be insignificant in the overall excellence.
The Un-Groomed, Hors Piste, Sous Bois, Glade Open
Terrain is still early season, so the outright mid-winter
depth is not quite there yet, so care is essential to
have safe passage.
More on all at Apres Ski this eve.
