2/7/18 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Middle Of The Night Shift Apres Ski Edit @ 1:29 A.M.

Can You Imagine...

Making Fresh Tracks For Approximately 4 Kilometres
without interruption, without so much as a single snowflake
out of place?

That was the Reality of Tremblant Today.

From Side To Side, From Top To Bottom,

Tremblant Was A Complete, And Very Snowy, Joy To Be On.

It Snowed All Day At Tremblant Today. Again.

Mountain Crews are doing a great job of keeping up with it
and the results are impressive on both general and specific
terms where “General” refers to Overall conditions, and
“Specific” refers to outstanding individual Trails as examples
of attention to detail that has become routine.

Wonderful Grooming Results and a Fresh Powder Bonus!

In previous scenarios like this we have written:

“Average” at Tremblant is Excellent!

...and today is a shining example of that!

For Tomorrow:

Sunny, -15C @ 9:00 A.M., daytime high forecast to be
-9C by Mid-Aft., with moderate Nor-Westerly winds
rising up the Mountain over Beauvallon and crossing
towards Duncan. There will be many wind sheltered
sunlit trail-side spots where you will be able to feel
“Heat” in the suns rays. Ski/Board conditions should be
another notch up the scale. Beginner and Intermediate
Green and Blue Terrain should show additional top layer
density that will translate to “Easier” execution of all
technique practice.

96/96(*) Open Trails on the WOW Snowy Slopes of all 4 Sides at #Tremblant .

We’ve said it before, “Awesome” is a way overused,
and consequently diluted meaning word, except where
it’s clinical definition can be legitimately recognized.
Yesterday was a true example.

It would be difficult to explain exactly just how much snow
was moving over the Summit in this “Last Run” pic. from yesterday, above.(**)

It would be difficult to explain exactly how much snow was
moving over the summit in 30 seconds... except we can say that
the Ski Tracks from the people ahead of us on the Duncan Quad
were filled in by moving snow before we could cross them ourselves.

(**)This image looks out of focus, hazy, fuzzy, pixelated, smeared,
poor definition, filtered, flatly contrasted, low colour saturation, etc.,
etc., etc., when in reality there were Billions and Billions of swirling,
randomly, chaotically moving Wind Driven Snowflakes visually mixed
into the stark difference of direct sunlight against almost black cloud
that was literally scraping over the Summit. It made for very challenging
photography for any of those factors, but keeping the snow out of the lens
was impossible for more than a moment at a time, and... it was truly Awesome.

How Much Snow Fell?

The Official Statistical Total for the 24hr period is 8cm’s but that’s
way, way off the mark for Mountain Elevations Accumulations where
we found over 35cm’s Powder Drift-in lines that literally ran for over
a kilometre in one single example of Versant Soleil Algonquin.

This Pic. above is a T360 Fan Submitted image @ 11:55 A.M.
and the text that came with was "Lots of powder - not hard -
thick powder and you can’t see your skis or feet."

Due to the way the wind was shaping the allowable rates of deposit,
it would be difficult to express the total in anything other than a guess
because there were places where it was above your knee, and other
wind exposed places where it was nothing. If we had to make that guess,
we’d say somewhere around 20+/-cm’s???

The Quality Of The Skiing In The New Snow Is:

Light, Easy, Fast, Fun, Floatation.

This is Light, Dry, Low Friction Snow and it skis exactly the
way you would expect loose, fluffy, powder snow should ski.
It is almost “Transparent”, in the sense that if you could
not see it, you would simply sense a very etherial floating
sensation of super liquid-like smoothness underfoot.

Regular readers here would understand a reference for Beginners
to be cautious in thicker built-up snow accumulations, but this snow
is so dry and dust-like that there was almost no perceptible resistance
to it where it was piling up to depths half-way to your knees, so where
Groomed in this morning, we think it’s going to be some of the very
best “Green”, “Easy” Groomed Trail surfaces so-far this season.
We could be off by one day, if the compaction needs another overnight
Grooming cycle to optimize, but hey... it’s absolutely beautiful Snow
to work with, so ultimately, we think its certain to see a wonderful
overall advantage from this latest Gift from Mother Nature across
the entire array of Tremblant’s 100% Open Terrain Footprint.

“Perfect” only exists in concept. We need to say that due to Wind
Induced Force, there may be exposed Firm or Icy Substrates at
or below some facing crests or pitches, but they should be in
recognizable patterns, and quite small in relative dimensions.
Proactive speed reduction and perimeter navigation should
allow you to avoid most or all glitches in these predictable cases.
