Tremblant Reschedules Opening Day, 2009, to Nov.26th

Post by T360 »

In a decision to ensure the best quality season start possible, Tremblant has postponed Opening Day until Thursday, November 26th, 2009.

Weather factors that would be extremely difficult to overcome (see Hurricane Ida reference below) have combined with the short time left before the original planned date of the 20th, in such a way that Resort Management has wisely chosen to reschedule. In doing so, Management has given the Mountain crews 6 additional nights to build a quality base for season opening on the all important U.S. Thanksgiving weekend.

We support this judgement call. We know that this decision was not easy and we understand.

The original projected dates were calculated with a Meteorologically forecasted weather model that did not happen, so there is absolutely no one to blame.

We reviewed all the same Meteorologic data and made the same conclusion back 3 to 4 weeks ago when the statistical weather forecast/analysis showed that the temperatures from that point forward would be colder than average, right up to and beyond the 20th.

A consultation with one weather expert this afternoon suggests that the effects of the tail end of Hurricane Ida that crossed over northern Florida last week pushed warm air masses much farther north than expected and no-one was predicting that at all. It may not come as much satisfaction, but the whole East Coast of North America is experiencing similar conditions, so we are not alone.

C'est La Vie !

After 35 plus years of Tremblant season starts for us, we give the Mountain crews full marks for effort on this one, everyone at the Mountain did everything they could to make it happen including multiple, massive snowmaking efforts and an eternally positive attitude.

"Patience is a Virtue" and "Good Things Come to Those that Wait", so all we can do is cheerfully accept the forces of Nature and look forward to a few extra days to get in shape to carve up the mountain next week!

Tremblant Mountain Crews Get 100% and "A" for Effort ("bon travail à tous !", "Bravo", Snowmigo's) on their Fall Term Project.

They were given an assignment and they did the very best they could under extraordinary circumstances. Excellent Work and a Super Effort!

It took a Hurricane(Ida) with a weather affecting radius of 2413 kilometers to challenge them!

It is now the end of Hurricane season, hopefully there will be no more influences to push up tropical air masses. We are told that the Northern Hemispheric Winter Weather Patterns should establish themselves soon, at which time we will graduate on to the "Winter Term".

Bottom line here is that with this kind of effort and with the appropriate natural temperature range for efficient, durable snow production, No-One on the East Coast makes better quality Snow than the Mountain Crews at Tremblant and we've been telling our friends that for... like, over 20 years.
