T360 Middle of the Night Shift Apres Ski Edit @ 4:29 A.M.
Despite the forecast that included afternoon
rain...
In our entire, collective, all-day Tremblant experience,
not so much as a single drop of rain, anywhere.
4.21.19.Duncan.Quad.Views.Over.Expo.Sector.Peak.Weather.Observations.c.jpg
Our sincere apologies for not having a more complete Apres Ski,
however, due to unexpected technical and logistical issues, we
were unavoidably prevented from producing more, so the
balance will be content in tomorrows reporting.
Summary: It may have been the clinically defined best
pure carving technique day of the season within a strict
definition of mechanical grip related to the exceptional quality
over the entire groomed trail inventory. Almost perfectly
aligned factors of ambient air temps, retained frost and
ideal shred depths of top layers, generated astounding
carving performance on virtually every square inch of
the 100% open groomed terrain array of all skill levels.
Very near flawless surfaces with universal consistency.
Simply amazing.
Additionally... It’s Been Snowing Heavily At Tremblant For Several Hours.
Please Note:
Applicable to Friday night over to Saturday Morning.

102/102(*) Open Trails on the still Snow White Winter Slopes of #Tremblant .
The Tipping Points Are Still Leaning Towards Winter.
As an extension of that “Tipping Points” concept,
we’re taking a closer look, Case Study of Versant Sud,
South Side, Summit Level Trail # 24, Ryan, Haut, Upper.
What we saw yesterday is what we expect today.
To begin with, “Ryan” is named after Joe Ryan who founded
this domain as a Lift Serviced, Trail Cut, Alpine Ski Resort in 1939.
It is the upper part of an original descent path that is now
considered a separate trail from its lower portion. It enters
from Taschereau and also from the top of the Soleil Sector.
3.20.19.Ryan.Haut.Upper.Conditions.Observations.a.jpg
If you look closely at the foreground in the pic below
you can see where SnowBoarders have slid sideways
over the snow leaving sheared layers behind. That “Shearing”
characteristic primarily comes with cold snow, and that is
exactly what this entire trail had all day. Despite the “+” 3C
or so of the air temp’s, that warmth never made it through
to surfaces at all. These pics were taken at about 3:00 P.M. and
things were cooling off by then, so we can safely say no heat
got to this portion of the Mountain all day yesterday. We think today
could be much the same.
3.20.19.Ryan.Haut.Upper.Conditions.Observations.b.jpg
Descending down Ryan towards the left side of the frame above,
we get to the junction of the two entrances, and facing back up,
on frame left is the path from Taschereau, groomed, and on frame
right, the path from the Soleil Sector(with Soleil Quad running over),
currently in an au natural mogul state.
3.20.19.Ryan.Haut.Upper.Conditions.Observations.c.jpg
Of particular interest on the Groomed portions is the depth
of ambient snowpack at trails outboard edges. There is enough
snow that Mountain Crews have been able to excavate and
harvest snow from the trail edges to fill in and level the entire
trail from top-to-bottom. That is a rare situation that is only
possible in a season of exceptional natural snowfall accumulation
and it is the primary component in this trails current level of smooth,
level, hazard-free excellence.
Below:
We’ve descended over the length of Ryan’s long central pitch
which we estimate at a linear distance of approximately 250 metres,
and looking back up to the place where the last photo was taken.
You can still see the Soleil Quad running over the frame right side.
The Skier here is demonstrating the excellent grip and lateral edge
hold this surface can easily support. It should be noted that another
reason all Tremblant trails are holding such all-day quality is that we
had to wait for about 8 minutes for someone to appear! We like to have
people in the frame if possible to help show scale, and in this case we
waited, and waited, and waited some more before this individual
came along. We do not know the person, they may never know this
pic. exists, but we were very thankful to have a very well skilled
Skier eventually come by. Having a “Person” ski through the frame
certainly adds both dimensional and performance perspectives, and
very happily, on the performance side, the wonderful conditions become
self-evident with a good skiers technique being displayed.
3.20.19.Ryan.Haut.Upper.Conditions.Observations.d.jpg
Below:
Swing around from the spot above, we see the termination
of Ryan Haut, Upper, at the intersection of Ryan Bas, Lower,
(to screen left), and Charron(to screen right). Charron leads
back to lower Taschereau, and you can take Charron directly
to the TGV Quad Chairlift to get back up to the Summit.
This bottom portion of Ryan Haut has 2 distinct dips and
a good rolling crest between, so speed needs to be regulated
here or you may find yourself in the air as the crest is a very
effective launching ramp if you have too much velocity.
3.20.19.Ryan.Haut.Upper.Conditions.Observations.e.jpg
Summary: Ryan is only one example of dozens of superb groomed
trails at Tremblant, most of which have very similar qualities right now.
Ryan has historically often been left as a mogul zone, but with this
much natural snow in the base, grooming to the very highest levels
of refinement are possible and it is both a joy and a treat to have it
like this. Try it soon, before “Spring” really gets here because it faces
the afternoon sun directly and when the solar rays really get cooking
things can change swiftly over a period of days.

Weather Notes:
With the typical elevation differential of -4C, there are
at least some possibilities for the indicated precipitation
to be all Snow over the Mountain.
Currently, the “Ceiling” or height of the cloud, is far above the
Mountain and what we are hoping is that way up there it might
even be colder, enough to make snow(?). We could be completely wrong.
This is a genuine weather oriented tipping point scenario
and depending on which way Mother Nature leans, the
outcomes could be wildly different, BUT... the skiing
should be great for today no matter what because one way,
we get a “Winter” bias, the other way we get a “Spring” bias.
The real difference would be for tomorrow if we get “Spring”
this afternoon, due to the forecasted overnight Sub-Zero C’s
that are likely at Mountain Elevations.
The bottom line when Resort Base Level temps are at, or within
a degree or two of Zero C, is that anything can happen, so be ready
for either.
Remember... “Them that adapts the quickest has the most fun!"

Page Summary:
Skiing is Very Fine to Excellent,
and primarily “Winter” in character
due to overnight sub-zero C’s and the
very deep frost in substrates that is
directly supporting surface conditions.
Go if you can, the 100% coverage is
exceptional in its scope of groomed quality
across the entire Mountain footprint.
