November 2021 Pre-Season Snowfall/Snowmaking Development

Post by admin »

.

“An Early Start To Winter."

We like to include some annual snowfall and snowmaking pre-season
startup chronology with archival recordings of Web Cam and Tremblant.ca
sharable social media observations. This is not scientific or any form of
absolute certainty because it is dependant on the timely availability of images,
and pre-season weather that may be late fall unpredictable, however, within
the relative context of one year to the next, or within the context of big weather
factors such as La Nina or El Nino, weather bug observers who like to ski Tremblant,
may be able to draw conclusions or associations about how the first official days
of seasons opening may be developing just by observing how soon, and how much,
the cold and the snow are stacking up before the lifts even turn for first tracks.

Basically, it’s been cold enough to naturally snow
and hold on to it since November 1 !!!

As a reference to this specific year, and a comparison to some previous
years, we think the evidence shows a very strong start with both adequately
low temperatures from basically the first of November, plus a healthy dose
of natural snow at the same time. All of this has the potential to greatly
facilitate rapid snowmaking and terrain development. In a “Best Case”
scenario, we could see a greater number and variety of open trails.

As an adjunct to this article, you need to review the 2021/22 Winter
Weather Forecasting article because it identifies a consensus call
by many forecasters for “An early start for winter.” We identify that
as nearly ideal.

We could be wrong on the snap shot above labelled “Beauchemin”,
it might actually be “Beauvallon”, looking up about mid-upper pitch,
across to one of the tree-stands that separates “Alpine”. We’ll
try to find the exact tree-line profile during Opening weekend.

Wednesday November 24, 2021, Evening Update:

We were wrong. Instead of what we thought would be
multiple descent paths to both bases, there is only
going to be 1 upper Versant Nord/North side open
trail, P’tit Bonheur to be cycled via the Lowell Thomas Quad.
Evidently, the potential we saw in the early November cool
weather was not enough to generate the coverage we thought
would be possible, or, unless there are other production factors,
pursuant to the declarations on the main website, such as the
weather challenges combined with general labour shortages for
example, that could be limiting the resources for rates of terrain
development?

One of the main reasons we had such a positive anticipation
for this seasons start was that we just did not experience the
fall heat wave that caused the delay of last years start by a week
to Nov.27, following weeks of unusual warmth that had Summit
overnight temps into November up to +17 C. As we have noted
above, this year, temps dropped and snow fell on Nov. 1 and
with almost zero or insignificant deviation, it has remained very
winter-like ever since. In that relative difference, we thought there
was good reason to think we were actually substantially ahead
in the potential for opening conditions. Apparently, that was
not the case.
