Weather Notes:

Absolutely fabulous weather profile for snowmaking.
We can expect significant volume production for about
the next 48 hours that will accelerate the development
of expanding open terrain, and in less time than if it was
a typically warmer end of November period.

Conditions Notes:

The picture at the top of this page tells you just about
everything you need to know regarding the Opening
Day conditions quality, not the least of which is the
visibly abundant amount of natural snow so clearly
to be seen in the trees and background.

For sure, most opening sequences rely heavily on
blown snow at the beginning of the season, it still
is “Fall”, it still is only November 24th, but the
fact that there is such a significant natural snow
component right from the beginning is going to
mean a much more natural feel underfoot. The
importance of a blend of natural snow to such a
large extent can not be overstated and the quality
of the descent experience in terms of refined
smoothness will be evident in every run.

The somewhat chunky tendency of early season
conditions with a fairly high proportion of blown
snow should be reduced by this extra natural
snow. For especially today, even the blown snow
should be lighter and drier because of the cool
temps that facilitate the formation of snow crystals
from all sources that are very crisp in the absence
of ambient atmospheric humidity.

Conditions Caveat:

There are only a handful of descent paths that are being
shared by mixed, all skill levels, where Beginners can be making
sudden and unpredictable, even erratic speed and directional
changes while Experts, anxious to get moving after a long
summer off, are excited about going fast.

This may not be a good combination for optimized safety.

It is up to the Experts to slow down and allow/accommodate
the lesser skill level Beginners and Intermediates with very
wide and slow speed passing margins.

Beginners and Intermediates need to scan, scan, scan
as much as possible while attempting to remain in
full directional and speed control with an absolute
and very quick stopping capability.

One of the most overwhelming safety factors for
Beginners is the Peer Pressure feeling to “Keep Up”
with the group, where no one wants to feel like
they are causing delay, so there can be very, very
dangerous, hasty and accident prone situations that
quickly develop that are just not necessary. The first
and best way to cope with this is... Take A Lesson!
There is both safety and quicker advancement in
a dedicated learning environment.

Otherwise...

If you are an experienced skier bringing Beginner
friends, do not rush them. Beginners, do not be
afraid to ask for and find a quiet gentle slope to
work on patiently and independently, let your fast
friends go off. You can all meet up later, and safer.

So, if you compare the 2 pic’s in this post carefully at the
ground level, you’ll see the very common mix of machine
groomed initial surfaces that can have variable degrees of
fine and/or course particle sizes. The top skier action shot
definitely shows a much more dust-like, very fine particle
discharge off the running edges of skis.

Everything we said about the desirable blend with a lot
of natural is true, however it is indeed a “mix”, so there
are also going to potentially be some chunky bits which
you can see under the snowboard above.

This leads us to the concept of “Break In”. All new trails,
all new open terrain, benefit from a “Break In” period of
time where repeated use noticeably helps reduce any
tendency for coarseness in the initial machine processed
blown snow base.

Do Your Part !!! Tremblant Fans have an important part
to play in actively getting out to enjoy Opening Day/Weekend
conditions and help to quickly contribute to the quality
of the descent experience by simply having fun!

Bring Sharp Edges!

Please Note: Your T360 author is not yet able to
be on site due to a post-surgical, medical LOA.
We expect to have that cleared by mid-December.
Thanks for your patience. In the mean-time, we
intend to maintain the daily, chronologically filed,

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
