The Quiet Zone...

For about one day...

The F.I.S Women’s World Cup Event population arrival starts
now, but... It will probably be tomorrow before we start to
see the big numbers move in so today may seem like a little
bit of tranquillity before what is going to be a whole lot of action...

Weather Notes:

A lot of national and regional weather forecasters seem to
be freaked out over a little dip in the Polar Vortex that
has them all worried about cold conditions, but to us
despite the fact that it is indeed the Polar Vortex that
will bring cool, it’s certainly not super cold and for a
Ski Resort, certainly nothing we can’t handle. Furthermore...
The upcoming cool cycle should/may bring quite a bit of
natural snow, so at this early stage in the season, we think
it’s close to a perfect forecast profile for helping to establish
the trail base. We need cool, and we need snow, so bring it on...

Conditions Notes:

It will be a good day surfaces wise anyway because
with fresh grooming and traffic on the very low
end of the scale, there should be all-day durability.

Plus....

So far... it’s all snowfall over the Alpine Trail Network.
With any luck and maybe a wee bit of assistance from
the Polar Vortex, it may stay that way until the real cool
sets in.

What we’re hoping for is that the winds aloft are already
quite a bit cooler and that could be what is influencing
the surface level conditions now.

----------- 8:15 A.M. Insert Update: --------------

So far... It’s snowing at the Summit, and it’s snowing all the way
down to the Versant Nor/North Side Base. That’s excellent news.
Even though we can’t see it, what we suspect is that it is probably
snowing over the Versant Sud/South Side as well, just about down
to the Johannsen crest above the Resort Base. At these temps, and
this Nord/North Base evidence, that would be a common active
profile, so we think there’s a solid chance it could be all snow, all day.
