We Think Today Is Going To Be Much The Same As Yesterday...

One Of The Top 10, Front Side, Technical Carving Days Of The Season.

When you can watch an obvious well conditioned Expert
carve the entire McCulloch Summit pitch... You Know
Everything Else Is Great!

Weather Notes:

Today could be much the same in weather profile too.

Yesterday there were light rain icons in the hourly forecast,
which freaked people out and attendance was very light...
It rained for 4 minutes. The rest of the day was totally,
completely, absolutely dry. Overcast for sure, but totally dry.

We could be wrong. Maybe Mother Nature has different
plans. Regardless, the rainy icons are likely to keep
attendance on the light side, even if it is a Saturday.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Rocket Fast... Everywhere.

What happened yesterday that we think is going to be a repeat,
is that the very, very slight high humidity moisture content within
the top layer of roughly 3 cm’s, was just exactly enough to act
as a lubricant for skis/board, as every groomed trail we sampled
was as quick as greased lightning. The natural glide and speed
was amazing because not all warm snow is this fast.

In the meantime, the ever-so-slight penetration of warmth
into the top layers was generating shallow softness and the
phenomenal lateral turning capability and edge set at speed
was universally reliable.

It was like driving a Ferrari at Le Circuit.

It was possible to carve short radius turns in excess of 1 lateral G.

It was equally as possible to spend your whole day gliding around
in total relaxation, effortlessly cruising the entire groomed array,
letting gravity do the work as you enjoy the spectacular scenery
and fresh Mountain air.

A fantastic “Fly Under The Radar” day of easy excellence.

If you could have made it out but did not come because
of a very brief couple of drops of rain, you made the wrong
decision.

This scenario squarely falls into our 80/20 rule where
the weather on the Mountain is way better than ground
level forecasting 80% of the time.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

In the Hors Piste, the moisture permeation of the top
layers was enough to act as a support membrane over
untracked lines. You could move over the snow with
your weight being very nicely carried over top, without
breaking down into the lower layers.

The top layers are what we’d call “Ballistic Grade" snowball snow.

A good Little League softball pitcher could easily break
a window with this stuff, and that density was exactly
what was capable of supporting your weight.

In the Un-Groomed mogul zones, the bumps themselves were
softly easy enough, but the challenge is now the exposed
hazards of ground and rock in the valleys between or below.

It’s the ones below that can hurt because in a lot of cases
they can not be seen from above, so if you aren’t slow enough
to be able to instantly stop or pivot, momentum could carry
you right into a solid obstacle with consequent harm to person
or equipment.

Experts Only, Extreme Care Is Mandatory.

Bottom Line:

The jewels in the crown for dedicated Front-Side Carvers and
average recreation skiers are the Groomed where there are
uniquely excellent conditions from the current mix of shallow,
soft top layers very well supported by a resilient frost underneath
the entire groomed trail network base.
