Here Is The Basis For What You Find Open Today:

Including This One,

Loads Of New, Fresh Snowfall...

We would call this a “Just In Time” snowfall addition
due to the fact that it was just in time to restore
coverages to virtually the entire dimensional footprint
of the Mountain that had been exposed to an early
March “In Like A Lamb” spring heat and thaw cycle.

The consensus among professional weather forecasters
is that a combination of El Nino and global warming
co-factors may have generated a sort-of perfect storm,
so-to-speak, where compounding or amplifying effects
combined to give us an extended warm spell, but thankfully,
and just in time, Mother Nature has turned things around
and blessed us with this winter reset that is a vital component
of ongoing seasonal quality.

Weather Notes:

For today, a classic late winter day following a major
snowfall event featuring easy single digit Sub-Zero C’s
with the possibility of it clearing off a bit after lunch
and maybe, possibly, could be a chance of some
sunshine and a potentially sunny, photogenic last run!

There is one little potential glitch in todays weather...
if you look at the peak wind gust velocities by the hour
you might correctly assume it could be a “Howler” out there...

Looking Forward...

Perhaps the single most important component of the
14 day long range outlook is that if you take into account
the typical or common cooler elevation differential of -4 C
up over the Mountains Alpine trail network, there is not
one single overnight that would currently be forecast
to be above Zero C. If that portion of the forecast alone
holds true, we are in very good shape to see the daily
stabilization of the trail base and the consequent retention
of the existing coverages of square surface area.

It’s Still Snowing At Tremblant !

Conditions are: “A lot easier than yesterday, but it’s
still a good workout and you have to be careful
around some of the thicker bits as there can be
icy portions underneath."

Conditions Notes:

Overall:

We want to start with an overall look at the possibilities
because there are some definite wild cards that could
take things in different directions and you’ll need to
be ready for those variations with the basics of recent
well tuned ski/board edges in order to optimize both
safety and fun.

At the temp ranges and snowfall characteristics experienced
yesterday there were very heavy and thick overtones to the
new snow that made for significant challenge.

There is a good possibility that with the overnight low on
Mountain elevations some of the thickness may have been
rendered out in a freeze-dry manner, so we could actually
see a much relieved change going from heavy to light.

There is also a possibility that it could be more like
going from heavy damp thickness to just plain solidly
refroze. Regardless of trail category or challenge level,
that’s the part that wants the edges.

In The Groomed:

The default will be groomed smooth. Any other mix
of just firm or solid, or lift to heavy, or snowy or icy,
will be way, way easier just because smoothness as
a default facilitates safer navigation no matter what.

If you are reading this from far away, or at some future
point as part of your research into sampling this time
period for ski holiday planning, it is important to note
that Tremblant’s Mountain Op’s are masters of overnight
recoveries. The reliability of "groomed smooth" can not be
overstated. Weather glitches can and do happen randomly
at any ski resort, the measure of utility then becomes the
reaction time and in that regard the Pro’s at Tremblant
reliably deliver the results in hours.

There will be some icy bits that are left-over’s from
the previous heat that caused some glacial-like flow
zones in the base substrates leading off steeper pitches
to places that may have formed pooling zones around
shallow depressions in topographical contours. These
types of glitches should be very readily identifiable as
patterns that can be observed and pro-actively anticipated
for navigational safety. Fresh grooming will probably make
them dimensionally small, but Spring Break traffic may
cause them to become more evident during the day,
especially where there are trail narrowing, convergences
or over trail centres on some popular runs that see the
most use.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

Depending on the effects of an overnight cold shock
that could render out a lot of the thick humidity and
result in a far lighter feeling, far lighter and drier,
re-crystallized snow flake, there could be some really
impressive improvements. If you look at the top picture
of Banzai Bas/Lower in todays journal entry, it looks
wonderful, but it was actually heavy and very thick,
today we think it will actually be a lot closer to the
wonderful the picture suggests.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
