Yesterday got up to +4C with rain, now it’s -6C, so currently it’s...
The Solid Side Of Spring.
Here’s one way to handle it all...
4.1.21.Nord.North.Lowell.Thomas.Sector.Spring.Sous.Bois.Sample.Refroze.Solid.FIS.Weapons.d.jpg
If you ask 100 experienced skiers what the best solution is
for any given set of conditions, you’ll get roughly 99 different
answers, however...
The fact is that after returning to well froze from quite wet,
having skis that eat “Icy” for breakfast, but still turn like snakes
can be a substantial asset.
It’s time to get out the spring “weapons"...
We got these old Atomic Slalom F.I.S. Race Skis you see above
off a local internet trading platform several seasons ago for just
over $200 CDN and we can tell you for a fact that they laugh at
these conditions as they rocket around like a Ferrari on the race
track, yet because they are well “Broken In”, they do not have any
harsh rebound due to the reduction in their stiffness as used,
retired race skis. At the same time they have retained most of
their torsional rigidity, and with the very high quality of their hard
alloy edges that so easily hold razor sharpness, their lateral turning
grip is immense from the standpoint of recreational use on smoothly
groomed but solid trail bases.
They carve like a Surgeon with a sharp scalpel.
For those who can justify more than one pair of skis for the unique
conditions of spring, in our opinion this is a very practical option
that can not only be used now, but can be used any day of the season
that might include “icy” in any description.
Additionally, if you think Race Kids are good skiers, and they are
some of the very best on the Mountain, just look at what they’re
zipping around on... 95% will have a pair just like these on their
feet, right this second.
For most people, if you could ski half as well as Race Kidz,
you’d be having the most fun of your ski life.
Weather Notes:
What looks lie a fairly easy temp is going to have
a very winter-like edge to it because of wind. You’ll
want to really pay attention to closures and overlaps.
Those pesky breezes will find the smallest of gaps so
get things all sealed up, before you go out the door.
At the currently indicated temps and wind velocities,
the net wind-chill values are around -14C.

Conditions Notes:
In The Groomed:
The default should be super smooth everywhere there’s
fresh grooming, however as you might expect after going
from warm and rainy to cool and refroze, there may be icy
bits lurking within the mix that could be referred to generally
as “Firm”.
In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
We chose our one pic forecast photo with one very specific
purpose of illustrating the typical result of this common
spring thermal cycling on the Sous Bois group of trails and
zones. The point is, they are still there, but it’s April 1, and
after numerous recent heat cycles, they are somewhat diminished
and, as the snow melts off, the clean and harmless tree debris
does not melt off and it gets left on the top of the receding base.
At first tracks this group of trails has the largest degree of
uncertain availability, however being labelled “Delayed”, or
as they used to call it “Progressive” Open is way better than
“Closed”.... at least there’s a chance.
In the mean-time, it is absolutely essential to respect and
obey all hand posted Ski Patrol trail signage and closures.
This is another day where the open list could be changing
so for best results check with the Summit Info.Ski Crews
for the very latest run-by-run updates.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
