4/3/25 #Tremblant Conditions

------------- T360 Apres Mid-Night Apres Ski Edit At 12:27 A.M. ------------

Tremblant elevations remained pea-soup foggy for
virtually the entire range of open hours, then, just after
4:00 P.M., the sky became noticeably lighter, began to
clear and by 5:00 P.M., there were glimpses of blue sky
that quickly got larger and larger as the dark cloud drama
receded. The pic. below was shot at just around 5:20 P.M.

It was like Mother Nature flipped a switch.

The temps got up to +13C and the wind was gusting to
the point of howling at its periodic highest velocities.

What we don’t like about that combination is that it’s
like pointing a heat gun at a snowball.

24/102(*) Open Trails.

It’s April... April is known for “Showers”.

So, for this morning...

Standard Foul Weather Protocols...

HOWEVER...

This Afternoon Could End Up Looking Like This!

Really?

Yup...

Weather Notes:

For sure... it’s really messy out at first thing. It’s so messy
that it looks like it could stay that way all day, but, the
forecast does indicate clearing so we sincerely hope it’s
correct. It so, it could actually be a very sweet afternoon.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Once you get past handling the damp atmospheric’s...

The clinical skiing has a very high probability of evolving
to very fine as a directly proportional relationship to rising
temps that allow for surface softening.

It got cold enough last night to snow about 1 cm over
the adjacent Mt. T village zone, so logic tells us the
Mountain may have had a bit of a re-freeze just before
the freezing rain, so that could take a couple or three
initial hours before enough heat can begin to work in.

Obviously, it’s not ideal, however there are potentially
favourable possibilities for this afternoon.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

What may be available is delayed, but it is not gone.

48 hours ago, we ran a sample archival pic.file that we thought
would be closest to our current forecast. We had to go way back
in the files to 4 years ago @ 4.1.21, which if you go back, you can
see we left that old file date on the forecast sample. We didn’t know
how close we were going to be. Above are the exact same skis,
4 years and one day later, pictured in the very same location to
within 3 metres.

The only difference is that we could not vertically plunge the ski pole
into the surface for a sample depth yesterday because there is a frozen
solid ice membrane 20cm’s/8 inches below the surface here that could
not be broken anywhere on or around the path to this location, but...

We can tell you for a fact that there is as much as a variable 1 to 1.5 metre
base here because this is a regular “Proof Of Snow” location for us in the
upper Lowell Thomas Sous Bois zone adjacent to trail #66, Le Tunnel and
we know the approximate depth from the height of the snow on the tree
trunks that we have been monitoring all winter long.

It is not like this everywhere, but we think that the frozen substrate from
last weeks freezing rain event is a huge durability asset and where it exists,
that there may be enough in square area coverage to facilitate some additional
time access for Sous Bois Fans to look forward to once things heat up a bit in
the upper Nord/North sectors for at least a couple more weeks.

In the Un-Groomed mogul zones there are innumerable wild card
traffic wear factors over a highly variable base that can have both
good depth, then exposed rock, within 2 metres. The un-groomed
trails often have their most forgiving conditions on the extreme sides,
in some cases where snowboard users cause banked reserves, but
using those edges requires serious Expert pivot-swivelled turns that
are almost stop-go-stop-go-stop-go efforts in order to safely
navigate against gravity down on a very narrow crest.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
