This 36 Hour Old Picture Is Not Completely Accurate...

but with explanation to follow, it accurately
reflects one of the best zones of ambient Sous Bois
reserve that now has 13 cm’s more snow on top.

T360 Current “Proof Of Snow”.

Anyone looking at the green lawn in front of the
house at Theirville may be questioning if there
is still good snow at any Eastern ski resort at
this point. The above picture showing roughly
1.35 metres, well over 4 feet, of snowpack still
here now, should help to set those concerns aside
because at Tremblant, there’s still tons of great
snow and great skiing.

As a matter of fact, the adjacent groomed trails to
this scene above have over 5.8 metres, some 19 feet
of compressed, groomed trail base that has shown
remarkable resilience throughout this seasons spring
influences.

There are numerous important observational elements in
the above picture, starting with the very clear display of
wind shaping in the lower left corner of the frame. If there
were 13 cm’s/5.3 inches of new snow, the evidence shows
that due to the wind that was so vigorously pushing and
swirling it around, it is not all evenly distributed. The scale
of the wind shaping in this tiny fraction of the Mountain is
proportionally the same scaled up to over the size of the
whole Mountain. Clearly, there are going to be wide divergences
of benefit across Mountain sectors.

Secondly, the wide divergence of benefit within close range
will be vastly evened out by grooming. Abundant snow
laid down in uneven local patterns almost immediately gets
beneficially distributed across the entire trail width by
grooming.

Thirdly, the quality of the new snow in terms of its
inherent dryness and fine crystalline nature is apparent
by the desert sand wave-like characteristics of the
wind shaped contoured drifting. These very fine lines only
occur when the snow is very cold, dry and light. We think
that is going to have a hugely positive effect on the blended
finished trail surface that just 48 hours ago was thick and
heavy. Only Mother Nature could cook up an entire Mountain
overnight, and we think that all of that plus the dedication
and exceptional skills of Mountain Op’s will ultimately render
this event into a very positive game changer affecting all of
the final days of the season.

Weather Notes:

What we like best... Low to no wind, at least to start with.

The indicated wind direction is West, so rising straight
up Taschereau, and what that says is that Versant Nord,
the North Side should be in the lee-side shelter of the
breezes just about all day.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Where freshly groomed there should be some extraordinary
excellence and very mid winter-like superb conditions by
any comparative April 9 on record.

Due to wind shaping there may be zones of enhanced
benefit and zones of lesser benefit, however we would
make a guess that the better will outnumber the lesser
by 20:1, and furthermore that the eventual reveal of
any of the lesser may be directly related to slope angle
compounded by traffic.

What that means practically speaking is that the Green
and Blue rated terrain will have the most potential for
consistent excellence as well as the most all-day glitch
free durability.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

There are select zones of excellent reserve, however
there are almost innumerable wild cards for access
and use, even with 13cm’s of fresh snowfall. Most
of those wild cards are related to safety concerns
the Ski Patrol need to confirm, primarily the effects
of repeated recent oscillating thaw and freeze Mother
Nature cycles that can make for irregular solidly froze
substrates, now covered in widely variable depths of
snow camo.

Be patient Sous Bois Fans... The Ski Patrol will open
as much as they can and as soon as they can, however,
it is absolutely going to need Expert skills and experience
to take full advantage of, and all that with appropriate
caution and slow speed explorations.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
