Back to winter for a couple of days?
Cool but not as cold as they said it would be...
Plus, the added bonus of Sunshine!
Mother Nature seems to have a bit of trouble making
up her mind about which way to go here, so all we can
do is cope with her indecision and work with it.
The Mountain Crews are in "Preserve" mode, so our open
trail count this morning is at 44 in order to protect the base
for maximum durability.
It is aprox. -15 right now, but the thermal energy of the sun
will no doubt make it seem warmer than that in places that
have shelter from the wind.
I mention the wind because it is a fair Westerly wind @ 20 KM,
so it will be coming up the Mountain pretty much square on the
Beauvallon/Alpine front sector.
Wind chill skiing or boarding down the South Side will be a factor,
at the summit at least, however as you get into the lower levels,
particularly within the inside contours of the Mountain, you
may find decent shelter from it.
It will be a bit chilly approaching the top of the Duncan Quad
Chair Lift as you face into the wind coming over the summit,
but the lower portion of the ride up should not be too bad
and the sun will hopefully help there too.

Today would be a great time to try out Geant on the North Side,
as it will have had sun on it from first thing, and as soon as you
clear the summit, it should be mostly in the lee from the wind.

- Restoring conditions is a full time job and as soon as the Mountain is cleared at the end of the day, work begins to build the highest quality surfaces into our trails. Here we see the groomers are already working on Beauchemin from the summit.
