T360 Apres Midnight, Apres Ski @ 12:45...

Started out semi-sunny, and breezy...

Ended up a wee bit foggy, and breezy....

While temps at the South Resort Base approached the freezing mark,
the Summit remained well below that by as much as 6 to 7 degrees C.

The typical Base to Summit Temp spread is about 4C cooler up top,
so interesting to see the more contrasting difference than usual. The
difference could definitely be felt in humidity levels.

Vision became an issue, particularly in the mid to lower sectors and
descending through airborne, somewhat sleet-like particles had a tendency
to coat goggle lenses.

Snow Quality remained at “Cool Winter”, however the dryness of the
crystalline component changed to a slicker, damper characteristic.
This change did not seem to affect speed much as surfaces were still
quite fast.

Speaking of “Fast”...

One of the single largest identifiable groups in attendance now are the
Racers who are all in High Gear Training mode for the up-coming
Competition season.

With regard to the weather forecast which is calling for a couple of
days of warm and rain, we feel that particularly with the temp spread
keeping the Summit cooler, it could actually escape most, if not all
of the negative side effects. The potential actually exists that what may
come as rain on the South Base sectors could be Snow on the North Summit
sectors. This is a precipitation pattern we see here at Tremblant frequently
when the Base Level temps are within single digit plus values. This potential
is even greater when the spread at the Summit is cooler than average.

We’ll be out there regardless, so we’ll let you know how that works out.

Please Note: we had a small primary camera glitch necessitating the use
of antique Canon ELPH SD6600 backup unit.

Mountain Crews have enjoyed close to ideal Snowmaking Temps for almost
3 weeks. Add in all the natural snow that’s come as well and the end result
on Opening Weekend is “Instant Winter”.

The pace of the Snowmaking operations continues on at very high intensity
and the icons in the attached copy of the Official Snow Report shows the extent
of this coverage that is what we would call “Several” weeks ahead of the
averages up to this year.

The primary benefit for Tremblant Guests right now is without doubt, the
most Open Terrain, and in the Best Condition, ever experienced in the
history of the Resort from 1939.

Beauchemin today is arguably better condition than we might normally
see it in mid December, a week after the 24 Hour Childrens Charity Fundraiser.

Below is a close-up of the qualities of the snow found in the pic immediately above,
but it is representative of the vast majority of all the snow at Tremblant right now.
It is a fine granular, but with a quite light, crystalline texture, and as you can see,
it spreads like cold snow. It has a good depth in the top running layer of between
10 to 18cm or 4 to 7 inches, and for the most part, carving at aggressive angles of
attack while holding good speed, is easy and fun.

There are some icy bit’s to be sure. Some of the steeper pitches, like La Traverse
have a very solid substrate and with traffic, the loose top layers get moved off to
the sides as the day progresses, typical... but Hey!, it’s November 22nd and we
think you’d be amazed at the overall excellence of the surfaces that in years gone by,
would just not be possible now.

More Fast Fun On Beauchemin!

Weather Notes:

Great for today, and despite the predictions, maybe not as bad as they
say for the next couple, but we’ll talk more about that in Apres Ski.

Page under Progressive construction while we try to work out the Knots
in Opening Day, Ski-Fried Legs, that no matter how many Squats you do in
the Gym, can never duplicate the exact forces of the actual sport.

The Skiing, for Opening Day/Weekend is extraordinary. If possible, You should be here.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
