The amazing Top-To-Bottom, Total Vertical Access on both sides for Opening
Weekend continues on, providing Tremblant fans with unprecedented Open
Terrain. We hope that everyone waiting for seasons start is lucky enough
to make it out to get the cobwebs out of those dormant Ski/Board Specific
Muscles. This is a magnificent and historic opportunity.

Generally Speaking:

The advantage Tremblant Conditions will have in the next 48 Hours will be
all the work Mountain Crews have done in the last 3.5 weeks.

In our Blog, dated Nov. 19th, with regard to Long Term Conditions Forecast, we wrote:

"Long Term: Every early day of better than average winter type conditions
allows Mountain Crews to gain a tangible advantage in square surface coverage
and base depth. The truth is of course, temps are not yet end-of-January,
it’s November and there will be the odd up/down fluctuation, but that’s exactly
where the advantage pays back because the more square surface coverage
there is, the more base depth there is, the more resilient the Open Terrain is
to Mother Natures little thermal episodes.”

We stand by that 100% now.

Specifically Today Speaking:

The Elephant in the room, so-to-speak, is the weather forecast showing rain icons
and Plus value, up to 4C temps.

What’s important there is that none of the precip. is scheduled to occur until well
after the lifts close at around 7 P.M., so for today anyway, Tremblant guests will not
need to be overly concerned. Technically, it’s gunna be “Spring” and/or “Late Fall”
Ski/Board conditions all day today.

Hydrophobic, or water repellant Base wax/coatings will be a big asset.

Foggy conditions are a bit of a wild card in terms of Ski Board Vision Utility
though, because of Speed. If you were just standing around, no problem,
but put yourself in motion, and the potential is that those tiny fog particles,
microscopic droplets hanging in the air, can coat goggle lenses.

Today is a day when Yellow Lens safety glasses from your local Hardware Store
may be a better option for safe vision. We promote this alternative because it’s
practical. They can be bought for under $15.00, often on sale for well under $10.00
and because it’s not super-cold out, you’re not worried about heat, plus, the airflow
around them helps eliminate inside fogging. Yellow lens also restore contrast to the
human eye, so irregular contours that in fog are not visible and can throw off
balance, become apparent.

Another Important Factor Today...

The typical, average Temp Differential between Summit and Base is around 4C cooler
for the Summit.

Yesterday, it was 7C cooler, so the rule is not 100%. What will today be?
Too early to tell, but there’s a good possibility that Summit, and more particularly
North Side Sectors will remain All-Winter, All-Day.

--------- Conditions Caveat: ---------------

Anytime, there’s borderline temp’s around the freezing mark, there may be
icy bits. Anytime there’s fog, vision becomes both a functional and safety factor.
Explore at reduced speed until you verify safe passage. Allow extra room for
manoeuvring around others and keep the eyes in the back of your head on-line
by scanning frequently, and before making any quick moves.

T360 Apres Ski... Late Eve. Edition...

It was a surprising, very good day for 3 main performance reasons:

1) The temps barely broke Zero C all day at the Summit, so there was very little
today in the way of surface loss.

At these oh-so-close, just at Zero, maybe a degree ‘r two above, briefly,
Snow in the uninsulated tree boughs was just beginning to show some
thermal effect.

This snow is what we would call “Ballistic Grade Snow-Ball Snow. Excellent
compaction, excellent weight, very solid, congealed integrity when packed
into a firm spherical form. A well formed Snow-ball of this stuff could break
a glass window if thrown with sufficient force... which leads to the second
performance reason today was very good...

2) It was Fast! The Groomed runs were all fast as greased lightning and there
was virtually no ice underfoot anywhere as surfaces were about 1 degree warmed
by wind. The Racers-in-training, future Olympians, were all Speeding around and
velocity was not an issue, nor was control. Carving quick, deep tracks was reliable
everywhere(assuming your gear is well tuned with good edges), so exercise value
today was very high if you have the muscle to support the effort.

There were some Local/Regular attendance riders from the Telemark Community
that expressed their opinion that due to no ice and speed, today was actually the best
day so far for them. We can certainly understand that. Speed and Edge Control
were indeed, excellent.

We spent some time Lapping on the North because of the quickness of up/down
cycles without having to remove Skis to portage, as was the case on the South
near the TGV repair zone. Running continuous laps has great exercise value
when a brisk, un-delayed pace can be maintained and that was very easy to
do on the Non-Stop, North Summit to Base Options.

Above: Looking down from just below the Lowell Thomas Base Zone, not only
is it Smooth and fast, but you can also see a certain “Lightness” in the sky,
as if the cloud cover was quite thin. That takes us to the third performance
reason...

3) Vision was not an issue, at least on the North. Goggles stayed perfectly clear
’til last run and at one point we even had a magic moment of....

“Blue Sky” ....

Tomorrows Weather Forecast is for some rain and Base level temps at up
to 13 C Plus... wow... but, on the flip-side, as warm as it is going to be,
apparently, it will be of short duration, for about 48 hours.

Get out your Descente Poncho’s...
