...there was obviously a very big shift in the look of things. The Skiing/Boarding
were exactly as we expected with “Chunky” being an operative concept, particularly
in some of the new terrain. There was no shortage of “Smooth” though, and exactly
where needed on Nansen Haut and P’tit Bonheur as 2 main examples. Lower Beauvallon
down to Johannsen was quite fine too. Snowmaking was turned way down after lunch
and Summit visibility became unlimited.

We expect that there may be a thin skim of fresh snow overnight. When
that’s combined with the overnight Grooming, tomorrow should see an
overall improvement in surface consistency. All Conditions comments
are made within the framework of using Skis/Board with good tune.

The bottom line is that for any November 29th on record, there is more,
and in better condition than we’ve ever had before.

Above: This is the view of the entrance to Nansen as seen from the lower access
point off of Ptit Bonheur’s Summit crest. It is one of our favourite POV’s because
of the depth of field to the distant hills, and the way the closer trees and land
contours frame the shot.

This shot below is from the corner of Alpine and Nansen’s main entrance, which
technically speaking is at this point, is still La Crete for about 150 metres, but
most people think of it and refer to it as the top of Nansen anyway.

This report will not be complete until we have the “After” shots to go with
the “Before”, so we’ll add those herein with Apres Ski today.

Nansen is an Original 1939 Tremblant Classic, designed and cut by
“Jackrabbit” Johannsen at the request of Tremblant’s Founder Joe Ryan,
so when it Opens for the Season, it’s a big deal for dedicated Tremblant
fans who appreciate it’s smooth character. The main portion, including
the pitch can be very fast and indeed it is frequently allocated as “Race”
training area, while Nansen Haut, in it’s gentle “S” shape, offers some
of the best learning surfaces at Tremblant.

Ski Conditions Today...

On The Previously Open Terrain... should reach new heights of seasonal refinement.
The daily incremental improvements as a result of traffic and Grooming render
out better and better surface consistency and with the crisp, cool overnight temps
today should be the Best Skiing/Boarding so far in the very early season that
is already filled with records of “Never-Ever” excellence in both coverage and
quality for these very early dates.

On The Newly Opened Terrain... Machine finished surfaces are inherently
more granular, sometimes even somewhat chunky in places to begin with, but
the Mountain Crews at Tremblant are very good at multiple pass Grooming that
gets fresh Corduroy at very fine particle size to begin with. Those surfaces always
respond favourably to Ski/Board Traffic as many, many passages over top with
sharpened edges help break down particle sizes from tiny to really, really tiny.

Smoothness will never be an issue, especially on a Marquee Sector like Nansen,
but there’s no doubt the new surfaces will benefit from use, so get out and do
your part to “Break In” all the new, Open Terrain!

--------- Conditions Caveat:-----------

There is Daytime Snowmaking going on, so there may be localized zones
of reduced vision that need to be navigated with caution and reduced speed
for both traffic and unexpected surface conditions or contours.

Weather Notes:

It’s sort of Winter Cool early this morning, but where there are
breeze sheltered Trail-Side Sunny Spots, you’ll be able to feel
Solar energy for sure.

If you start out bundled up for cool, with the fairly rapid rise, by noon hour
you may need to open up your jacket vents for some internal cooling.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
