12/1/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Middle of the Night-Shift Apres Ski @ 3:33 A.M.

First on the list...

At approximately 3:45 P.M., the TGV Quad was fired up and the chairs
began to move!

We saw it with our own eyes!!! The TGV runs and Works!

It may well be the first or preliminary test cycles, but the point is
that the cable is moving with the chairs on it and that means it’s
that much closer to being repaired and restarted!

If you look closely, you may be able to spot the glint of the odd icy bit
but within an overwhelming wall to wall of white as you cruise on the
Open Terrain.

The sort-of odd part is that with Mother Natures recent thermal cycles,
most of the snow in the bush is gone, so there is a very much “Late Fall”
look off-trail. That would disappear in minutes with a good Snowfall because
the ground is frozen quite solid and even in and around the trees, the leaves
are frozen over the ground too, so they would support and retain any snow
like a blanket or mantle over the Mountain.

In the mean-time, Open Alpine Trails are solid Corduroy with a mixed
layer of course to fine particle sized snow over a very solid base. There
are Icy zones and especially on steeper pitches like Superieur, speed control
is absolutely essential or you risk runaway gravitational force.

Considering there’s nothing we can do about the Weather, we’d far
sooner have things the way they are than to have lost any surface coverage.
Repeated Grooming cycles will improve top-layer depth for easier and easier
control and new fresh snow will eventually come with fall’s advance towards
winter and reframe the pic’s. with white.

New Terrain Development like McCulloch as only one example, continues on
and with the support of cool sub-zero’s for additional snowmaking, it’s only a
matter of short time till more Open Trails join the list.

There’s no doubt Fresh sharp edges are your best friend. Speed and directional
control are not too difficult with them, without them, much more difficult to maintain.

Spectacular Views were never ending. That’s Tremblant on any Sunny day!

More in the morning, but it’s supposed to be cooler and still sunny, so
bundle up and bring fresh battery for cameras.

21(*) Open Trails on Summit To Base South, Summit to Base North, at #Tremblant.

Thank Goodness For “North”...as in Latitude.
...a short note of appreciation.

As much of this region of Eastern North America experiences lingering plus
value, above freezing temps to the South today, Tremblant is quite nicely below
which will be a huge advantage factor in the quality and consistency of the
Open Terrain and the pace of it’s continued development here.

For example, the current spread between here and Burlington Vermont this
morning is 12 degrees C, warmer, so for all those folks who relate to Degrees F,
we’re at about 23F and consequently many of Tremblant’s Southerly regional
peers are in the mid-to-upper 40’sF. Noted comparisons are Base Levels.

For those who seek out and enjoy early season Skiing/Boarding, “North” will
statistically exceed “South” in the general advance of Winter conditions.

This Latitude Advantage has been capitalized on by Tremblant Mountain Crews
who have used it to establish the best ever November Opening on record, so as
we move forward into the first day of December, we think it’s appropriate to
reflect on the benefits we have had so far at Tremblant with sincere appreciation
and gratitude.

Merci, Thank You, Tremblant Mountain Operations for an Outstanding Effort to
launch this season with both scope and quality at these new record levels.

Mountain Guests who planned/booked Early Season attendance have been
very well rewarded this year and we’re looking forward to the potential of
continued, "ahead of schedule" conditions.

Moving Forward From Yesterday to Today...

Soft, Spring-like conditions covered the Mountain from top to bottom.

Newly Opened Superieur for this weekend started out firm and somewhat
chunky Saturday, but like all surfaces, the Plus Value Temp’s completely
changed it to a very forgiving softness that helped offset its steeper
pitches yesterday.

(Please note that the foggy flat grey light was very difficult for pic’s,
so highlights, definition and contrast are turned way up to show surface detail)

situation.

Things are going to be very firm today as the drop in temps since
Last Run yesterday will have solidified those soft spring-like surfaces.

Overnight Grooming will have levelled out all the moguls that developed
from Weekend traffic, so “Smooth” should be an all-day situation given
the substantially lighter traffic of a weekday.

This Advisory Below Applies To The Next 2 Weeks... as the
long range weather models suggest slightly below normal temps.
(subject to Mother Nature changes)

Bring tuned gear and be ready for some heavy duty speed over a firm base
that will need sharp edges for optimum control.

The advantage there today is the light crowd, but non-the-less, there are
beginners and folks that are new to Tremblant, so allow extra room for
navigating safely around others who are not familiar with the area.

Mountain Crews will have rendered out lots of finely ground surfaces,
particularly on the Green Learning Slopes like Nansen Haut and P’tit
Bonheur, but we recommend reduced speed initial explorations on
all the Intermediate and Expert Terrain until you can verify the
locations of any Icy bits. Some of the steeper pitches and crests are
places you can anticipate the need for caution around.

Todays Weather: is currently sitting with temps at -5C under a mostly(so far)
sunny sky and the temp is actually expected to hold steady there all day.

The Wind is a bit of a wild-card, forecasted at moderate speeds from the
Nor-West, but we can tell you for a fact that it is gusty out there now at
base levels, so up at the Summit, it could be more noticeable.

Mountain User Utility Tip:

Wind Chill is always a factor, especially when talking about an outdoor
Sport that has you moving at a considerable velocity to begin with, so
that’s where having exterior garments with good overlaps and seals
pay huge dividends in comfort. Cold air migration into your inner envelop
can be virtually eliminated with some very simple and inexpensive tricks.

One our favourites is double overlap Neck Warmers to completely insulate
the collar of your jacket.

At Downhill Alpine Skiing Speeds, even tiny, tiny gaps at the neck can allow
cold air to be driven into your interior spaces, so for a $1.98, figuratively speaking,
you can make anything, from a $100.00 Bargain, up to a $1,000.00 Designer
Jacket vastly more comfortable.
