11/30/14 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Midnight, Apres Ski Edit @ 12:45 A.M.
It was foggy....
From time-to-time, Soggy....
...and most importantly, in a rather “Spring-Like” way,
Fast, Fun, and Forgiving!
The Superieur/Jasey.J/Duncan descent path was a primo Shred Zone.
Yesterday’s very firm/solid became todays Warp-Drive Carve Country.
Lean in and let ‘em Rip!
All the increase in “User Friendliness” we thought would happen, did.
What was solid yesterday was mega-carve-traction today.
One functional drawback was periodic interruption to vision caused by
very small airborne water particles, as in “Fog” or surface level cloud.
That was more of a temporary inconvenience though, there were also
more extended dry periods than we might have guessed would happen,
but that just re-enforces the reality that precipitation typically travels over
the Mountain in bands.
The Temps are not forecast to go sub-zero until about 4:00A.M., however,
it may only dip by a degree or two which could leave some surface softness
in the mornings Open Trail inventory.
Softness in the morning may be influenced by the alleged “Sunshine” forecast.
At Temps so close to Zero, Sun could represent a tipping point in surface quality.
Soft or not, views are always spectacular on a sunny day, so make sure
your camera has good battery life and sufficient memory to grab all those
Snap Shots you’ll want to get.

Tremblant November Conditions: "A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words"
The privileges of the best Opening Sequence of days in the History of
Tremblant continues on. The Above pic of P’tit Bonheur’s upper entrance
yesterday morning is an excellent summary of those privileges. In any sort
of normal year if we told you this pic was taken in mid-January, not many
would doubt it.
When you take into account the peaks and valley’s of Mother Natures November
Weather Whims we are very grateful, for the sake of the Skiing/Boarding, that
Mountain Crews have had enough “cold”, and for long enough, to establish such
a sufficiently solid foundation/base.
Yesterday morning was brilliantly Sunny and quite cool @ -15C, so there
were chunky zones where machines had broken up the solid top layers.
There were many zones of Super Smooth too, and for it’s Opening Day,
Nansen Haut was a prime example.
Mother Nature decided to toss a blanket of cloud over the whole region,
along with warmer temps., right around the noon hour, but surfaces remained
much the way they were first thing in the morning for the rest of the day.
11.29.14.La.Crete.Summit.Sector.Aft.d.jpg The day may go Grey... but you can always find colour at Tremblant!
We will have more on that later, as time permits additions here.
What we expect to see today is a softening of yesterdays chunky bits due to
a rise in temps that are forecasted to take the South Base Sectors up to +5C
by about 3P.M., together with whatever consequences arise from “Mixed Precipitation”,
that include the possibility of rain. This softening should also be enhanced by both
additional smoothness from overnight Grooming, and a skim of Fresh Overnight
Natural Snow, so the net result should be overall easier Ski/Board surfaces today.
It may even take on very good “Spring-Like” Skiing/Boarding. A Descente Poncho
may be your best friend, if needed.
We feel the most dramatic increase in user friendliness may be in the newly
opened Superieur/Jasey.J/Duncan descent path and we’re going to make
every attempt to photo-document that today. This is nothing more than
the normal evolution of Trail Surfaces that are brand new and have not yet
had the benefit of either multiple days of Grooming or Mountain User cycles
to break-in the top layers.

Regional/Historic Weather Notes:
Everyone knows the Late Fall/Early Winter can have unsettled, irregular
weather patterns and we are certainly seeing examples of that during
these initial days of the new Ski/Board season.
Freeze/Thaw/Freeze/Thaw/Freeze is a statistical/historical average for late November,
early December anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere, however, the good news is...
We are very fortunate at Tremblant to have the benefit of literally Decades
of Mountain Crews Experience to produce very fine Ski/Board surfaces of
refined, groomed, Corduroy Snow, that offsets those Weather factors every morning.
Of course, our Weather Drama’s here are not nearly as wild as History will
show the unfortunate inhabitants of the Buffalo New York Region have recently
endured with Metres and Metres of Snow followed by Summer Temps and flooding...
all in about a week. The number of fatalities caused by the weather there is ample
evidence that Eastern North America can have exposure to violent weather
at this time of year, so we think we’re lucky here at Tremblant to have seen
a much narrower variation in the extremes and with a favourable bias towards
Winter.
