12/8/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Ski Edit under construction, Progressive Mode @ 8:15P.M.

Today saw a return to the more relaxed pace of an Early Season Weekday
and Surface Quality remained very high all day without the traffic wear of
a big event weekend. Incremental Grooming refinement also contributed
to more consistent Grip-able Thickness of Surface Layer.

It was a pretty easy day for beginners due to the low surface resistance that facilitated
the relatively easy maintenance of the very basic Snowplow manoeuvre for keeping
all those new forces beginners are not used to, in check.

Let’s see if we can imagine the story on the other end of this picture.
This is your first visit to Tremblant. This is actually the first day in your life that
you’ve seen Snow. That’s because your here for 5 days or so on kind of a late
Honeymoon arriving from your Home in Puerto Rico. That’s right, you’ve always
liked a good adventure and, well... here you are!

We can’t think of a better way to get away for something completely different,
unique, and very special.

Bienvenue au Tremblant! Welcome To Tremblant!

We hope you not only have an excellent time now, but learn to love the
Snowy Winter Experience as much as many of us who have grown up with it.

Snowmaking is going on at a very quick pace, but as the temps are
forecasted to rise to quite close to Zero over the next day, the Laws of
Physics may take over as it’s difficult to create “Snow” in a “+”, Plus Value
C, above freezing ambient air temp. Consequently Snowmaking could be
off-line, time will tell. The Weather Network Forecast indicates a substantial
Natural Snowfall of up to 15 CM’s for Wed. The often far cooler winds aloft,
high in the cooler upper atmosphere, can produce amazing amounts of Snow
when ground level temps are at or close either way from Zero C.

The North Park was in excellent, very well manicured shape. We have some
Module pic’s to process and we will duplicate publish them here and as a reply
on a topic started by a forum member on the General Tremblant Discussion
forum... but first, here’s a neat “Helicopter” jump we just barely caught while
at the bottom of the North Park. Sorry for the slight fuzzy, but it was a spontaneous
action shot on camera “Auto” Settings.

As you can see, the forecasted “Sunny” was not quite so “Sunny”, but that
did not dampen the enthusiasm of people we spoke to who all seemed to be
enjoying a day of improved consistent surfaces and milder temps.

Still Very Fine Early Season Conditions, Still one of the best possible forms
of Healthy Exercise!

Tomorrows Weather... Overcast and temps up to -1C at South Resort Base.
....Easy, Very Easy!

A wee bit Nippy again this morning, but while we were sleeping....

This is an example of the Terrain Development going on right now at Tremblant.
Perfectly logical too, when you consider that McCulloch, to the immediate right
is already on-line down to the TGV Quad Base, so adding Taschereau now makes
complete sense.

While the reference to “Nippy” as in “Cold”, might mean more attention to
personal insulation layers for Skiers/Boarders this morning, when it comes
to Snowmaking, these cooler over-nights seem to enhance the Snow-like
qualities of the process and what hits the ground is a very fine, light, almost
dusty-dry Snow particle. When you Ski through or over this cold formed Blown Snow,
it feels satin smooth underfoot and has no heaviness or moisture related resistance.

----------- Snowmaking Edit -------------

Snowmaking commenced on Nansen Bas, Lower and all related side-trails!
Excellent News regarding this 76 Year Old Iconic Tremblant Favourite!

You might just, maybe, possibly, not for sure, but could be, see Summit-to-Base
Nansen for the Super Demo Day Weekend coming up Dec. 13th ???

The Ski/Board Conditions continue to be what we’re calling “Technical Skiing/Boarding”,
defined as Ski/Board Technique that is grounded in skills of competency that allow
the Skier/Boarder to maintain absolute control of Speed, Direction and Stopping
at all times within their realistic and appropriately matched level of Terrain Ratings.

We went on a bit of a Rant about Skill Sets yesterday due to some criticisms
about Icy Bits that naturally occur in the Up/Down temps of late Fall, but seriously...

Learning how to maintain that complete level of control in any challenging
degree, makes you a better, safer Skier/Boarder, not to mention stronger
at a higher level of fitness due to the muscle recruitment necessary to master
the techniques.

Below: Last Run on McCulloch. Here’s someone who knows what they’re doing.
A well centred, low, compact athletic stance over the skis with a tight, feet together
posture allows this Skier to make rapid adjustments for balance to safely navigate
over, or around any Icy Bits encountered.

Not every day on the Slopes is super-easy. It’s a “Sport” and Good Fitness
with Good Technique are valuable assets to not only the “Sport”, but to your
better overall health as well.

Community News:

We ran this pic above yesterday and we’re adding it here again because now we
can do the Math by adding this years number and bring the 14 Year Grand Total up
to date for a whopping, huge, really big number @ $18,798,520.00!

We believe this is the biggest Ski Industry based Charity Fundraiser in
North America and maybe on Earth, so Congratulations Tremblant for the
massive efforts required to Host and Stage this Event.

Today’s Weather Notes:

Starts out Nippy @-19C, but rising quickly to -8C as warmer air masses are
entering the Region. These warmer air masses are expected to stay with us
for several days, so the whole week will be very easy to dress for.

Supposed to be Sunny, but at this stage it’s actually a sort-of thin, bright overcast.

Breezes form the Sou-East, so crossing the Summit from Duncan moving towards
Beauvallon/Nansen sectors.

There’s Big Snow in the forecast for Teus./Wed., we’ll keep an eye on that
as it progresses.

There’s Ton’s of Easy, Beautifully Groomed Terrain Sectors, but if you can
figure out how to safely master the challenges of the “Technical” side of
some of the more challenging early season conditions, you’ll be able to “Dance”
on the Mountain for the rest of this or any other Winter season.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
