Earlier Today(see orig. post below), we said:
“Look for extraordinarily fine Green and Blue Terrain.”
Descent Path: Expo Quad Peak to Sissy Schuss/Gagnon Side Door, to Sissy, to
Fuddle Duddle Bas.
Looking up Lower Fuddle Duddle to the intersection with La Griffe, entering onto
lower Fuddle Duddle from the upper right of this frame.
No Words... and No Camera... could come close to describing the Quality of
This Terrain shown above.
If we had to try with the words, we’d have to say all of Tremblant’s Open Green
and Blue Terrain we Skied today felt ...
Liquid Smooth.
It was unique. When you think about it, each day is like a fingerprint of distinct
elements like Temp’s, Barometric Pressure, Winds, Recent and/or Current Snowfall,
Grooming Cycles, Traffic Wear, etc., etc., for only a few examples.
Todays combination rendered out some of the very best Blue and Green Terrain
Known To The Human Ski/Board Experience.
Looking Down Fuddle Duddle over flawless, Satin Smooth Snow.
Quite Simply, you needed to be here to realize that. Keeping in mind the other
Challenges today, namely the KKKKkkkkold.... that one single factor, as dominant
as Cold can be, was displaced in your mind by the singular excellence of the Grip,
Glide and Traction while seemingly floating over the surfaces, that for lack of any
better terms, were like a “Transparent” element between yourself and the Mountain.
Very, Very Unique. ... so Unique you practically forgot about “Cold” as this
impression of surrealistic high speed hovering took over.
All these words come short compared to the actual and we are keeping fingers crossed
that tomorrow will be either the same or somehow better??? is it possible???
We sure hope so...
“How is it possible that Tremblant can have so many new “Best Of’s” ?????”
Two words: Incremental ... and Refinement.
If you have something that you can “Incrementally Refine” every day...
it just gets better. That’s exactly what’s happened at Tremblant over the past
several days. The mix includes all the New Snow and a huge shot of Cryogenics
from Mother Nature Plus Mountain Crews Tireless All-Nighters and Presto! ....
...You’ve got Magic Snow Surfaces at Tremblant!
Wind Induced Drifting Factors:
It’s an easy illustration of Wind Drifting above due to the square block shapes
altering airflow, but out on the Mountain similar relationships are more subtle
due to more natural contour shapes. Non-the-less, drifting to significant depths
is occurring for exactly the same reasons.
Our interest in that is in the Expert Terrain and today was no disappointment there.
In this example below you can see lateral drift lines cut by Grooming, and Fill-in Drifting
over previous tracks.
Banzai, Mid-Point Entrance off Lowell T. to Duncan Cat Track. Tomorrow... Easy Temps... a lot milder daytime high at -8C, under Snowing Clouds
All Day!
Take the day off if possible, Regional Tremblant Fans! Hit the road Early!!!

69(*) Open Trails on 3 Sides at #Tremblant as the Soleil Sector is
Off-Line Today for Severe Cold Weather Lift Safety.
"Operation Deep Freeze"
The entire Eastern Half of the North American Continent has been plunged
into unseasonably Cold Temps and here at Tremblant, we Laugh at them!
Official Environment Canada Severe Cold Weather Warning In Effect.
(In Apres Ski last eve., we said that we thought the forecasted Over-night Low
temp. @-29C might be “Blown Away”... it did. Official Stat Low -35 C.)
Lee-Side Drifting filled in a great number of Sweet Spots at Tremblant Yesterday.
This example below on Nord, North Side Expo shows accumulations that were
over double the Stat Snowfall total.
The Excellence of Todays Conditions are going to be a combination of this
abundant very fine snow, together with a totally committed All-Nighter
by Mountain Crews. Look for extraordinarily fine Green and Blue Terrain.
We Rejoice in the Unique attributes of Fresh, Deep, Cold Formed “Squeaky”
Snow that Skis/Boards with outrageously fun Performance characteristics of
Grip, Traction and Carving Capability in the most extreme forms your Muscle
can sustain!
Of Course... it takes careful planning and execution of Dress Modes that
cover every speck of Skin so there is practically Zero Exposed, every Layer
that you own that can be worn in combination, maybe some supplementary
Heat in the form of Hand Warmers, Boot Warmers, Electric Gloves, Electric Vests,
etc., etc., ....But You Go Anyway! ... and Have Fun Doing It!
Operation Deep Freeze is the Challenge of Successfully Mastering the demands
of “Cold” and in doing so, earning the Apres Ski Bragging Rights to make your
claims of Strength and Perseverance ... not to mention Survival(**)!
((**) Inventory Check: be sure to count Fingers and Toes at the end of the day
to make sure you have 10 of each and none have been accidentally misplaced
Trail-Side. Just kidding, but there is a time in this kind of weather were you can
quite innocently lose feeling in Fingers, Toes or Nose. The sign to look out for is
that your Fingers, Toes or Nose are cold-painful, then you get carried away with
a good run and realize afterwards that the pain is no longer there. This is when
you may have actually lost feeling and you should immediately proceed to a
warm-up environment. If you quickly experience severe thawing-out pain, you
should be fine.)
Operation Deep Freeze includes the Discovery of Tremblant’s Sweet Spots of
Conditions that let your Skills Shine at What-ever Level you are, and even tackle
some challenges you might not normally take on.
Above: Very Cold Formed Snow sometimes has high friction levels, so the natural
braking effect from that extra forward resistance, and in this case depth as well,
can be utilized as an offset to the Gravity normally experienced on steeper trails
like Nord, North Side “Dynamite”, allowing safer sustained control.
Operation Deep Freeze is the Discovery of Tremblant Scenery and Conditions
that bring the Very Highest Levels of Personal Involvement and Appreciation
for Your Life-Long Passion For Winter Alpine Snow Sports.
Above: Entering Nord, North Side Banzai at the mid point. Opening this portion
of the trail for the first time... and Groomed Too!!! This is an exceptionally fine
way to bring this trail on-line and one of the most interesting things about it was
that there was 10 to 15 CM’s of Powder over the surface After Grooming which was
probably done with 10 to 15 CM’s of Fresh Snow to begin with!!! Super Satin Smooth
Snow, and one of the best possible examples of Sector Drift-in(at almost double the
Stat Snowfall total) we know of. The bonus is that this phenomenon typically occurs
several times a season in this location!
Weather Notes:
The Whacky Worst Cold is already over and in the past. Temps are climbing
fairly steadily this morning and by Noon, should be 13C warmer than the Low
@-22C and by 6:00 P.M they should be @ -14C. that’s a 21C rise in 15 hours.
Thank Goodness for Near-term Tremblant Trip Planners!
This warming trend is currently forecasted to remain for the next two weeks
as per attached Weather Network Graphic.
