1/14/15 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Mid.Eve. Apres Ski Edit Under Construct at 9:00 P.M.

There were no disappointments in Open Surface Conditions
(from Appropriately Qualified, Corresponding Skill Level Users(**))
that we are aware of...

How could there be when this Today-Typical Scene says so much...

Legitimate Expert Feedback on Expo:

“Generally Very Fine. There were one or two bare spots, mid pitch, but
actually quite good traction and even surfaces for the whole thing.”

Vision issues in close proximity to Snowmaking were Noted, however at
these temps, we fully understand that Banking Reserves of Snow Inventory
is very important for the durability of the Season.

Otherwise...There were people Flyin’ all Over Tremblant Today...

(This is an excerpt from a Duncan Quad Panoramic where the Sun’s energy was
ever-so-gradually turning Tree Bough Snow into Ice and simultaneously refracting
light points into the scene. The passing Aircraft overhead for the “Flyin’ all Over
Tremblant” reference was a handy coincidence, as was the Duncan Quad’s Cable
running across the top like a border. We are including it for whatever “Artsy” value
it may have.)

It was our honour to meet this Wonderful Couple at "Last Run" who actually gave
us permission to use their Picture here(@)! Just as we have to do sometimes, they
have a lengthy Regional Commute to get to Tremblant. We talked about how we can
all appreciate the feeling that the day has been lost to transit, can be well offset by
making it in time to get a few “Last Runs”!

The Beneficial Result of the Deep Cryogenic Zap to the Snow Surfaces,
combined with an Outstanding Grooming Effort of Mountain Crews
created a Universal Excellence in Ultra Carving Edge Hold on 99% of
every surface Yesterday Morning that lasted All Day...

...and we fully expect a duplicate Today.

(Please Note: South Base Temps reached -16C by 2:00P.M., so it’s
important to realize that there is rapid daytime improvement to comfort.
As Noted Above, Today’s forecasted high during Open Hours is for -13C.)

The Virtually Flawless Top Layer is so reliable that your temptation is to
exert maximum lateral force on almost every turn, just because you can...
and also because the Thrill and sense of Athletic Accomplishment of doing so
is sort-of addictive.

Too Much Fun?

Well, try cranking off Hard Charging Turns for a Few hours while your
brain gets carried away with the outright Joy of Skiing at the very Highest
levels of your own physical capability, and sooner or later, those Quad Muscles,
those Gluteus Maximus Muscles, Knees, etc, etc., begin to feel the need
for Rest and Refuelling.

These are some of the days that you dream about in the Off-Season when you
think of just why you Love to Ski so much and how much you look forward
to every moment on the Mountain.

You May Not Have This Exact Quality Of Performance When It’s Warmer Out.
Period.

We frequently write about our Appreciation for “Squeaky” Cold Snow Surfaces
that have Unique and Distinct Physical Performance Properties.

Speed, Grip, Traction, Forgiveness, the Quick and Light Feel of Razor Sharp
Reactions to All Control Inputs so All-Day Consistent and Reliable, are not
matched by any other Temperature Range Snow.

Warm Weather will come Soon Enough... and we will enjoy those days too
for their own merits, but in the mean-time...

...We make every attempt to adapt to Mother Natures conditions and make the
very best of these precocious days of Pure Winter, Snow White Magic.

Dressing for the Morning Cool is not as difficult as you might expect.
Virtually all Price Ranges of currently available Winter Garments have
the benefit of Modern, Engineered Fabrics, Fibres and Features. We think
the most important features are Zippered Vents on the Torso and a Skirting
at the Waist in combination with TWO Neck warmers to Overlap twice around
the Collar/Neck between Base and Mid layers.

Believe it or not... the two neck warmers are a very inexpensive, but critical
element preventing cold air migration into your inner envelop. Consider that the
stance of a Skier or Boarder in motion is inclined towards the Fall-Line, i.e. when
you descend, you face down the slope. That forward inclination allows any gap
around your collar/neck to act as an air Scoop and at Ski/Board Speeds and
-20 something +/-, even a couple of millimetres, an 1/8th inch, can inject enough
cold air over a run to make you feel cold. If you have multiple small gaps, you can
feel cold in a few hundred yards at speed. Neck warmers cost “Cheap”, they last “Forever”
and are therefore a huge asset far beyond their cost for comfort.

Obviously, you don’t need them most of the time, but for really cold days,
$10.00 spent on an extra can make a huge difference for years to come and
if it’s in your Ski Kit Bag, use it or not as needed. Simple, Effective.

Page under Progressive Assembly.

((**)We get all kinds of Feedback, but after riding up a Lift with a Very
Vocal person with a lot of expensive Equipment on, and a Very “Expert”
sounding negative opinion about an “Expert" trail selection they had
just competed, we hung back to observe their actual Skills and found them
to be at best, an awkward and somewhat uncoordinated Intermediate with a
Big Wallet.

Conclusion: The ability to buy expensive “EXPERT" equipment does not actually
make them an “EXPERT”... and in this case, the.. "Lack Of Action Speaks Louder
Than Words”. That immediately renders the feedback as an Inaccurate
Misrepresentation. It is unfortunate that some People who can afford the most
expensive stuff, may automatically think of themselves as Expert qualified, only
by virtue of Wealth.
...Not True.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
