Tremblant Dodges a Thermal Weather Bullet...

While almost everywhere to South of Tremblant experienced “Plus”, above freezing
temps, the worst Mother Nature did here was to hit 0, that’s ZERO C, for a single hour.

Wheeewww.... what a relief.

There may be the odd soft spot on base level South side trail surfaces, but maybe not too.
We’ll really need to get out there in order to asses the actual conditions after the
combination of a South Base 2-C and an estimated Summit level -6C overnight low,
plus what-ever Mountain Crews can get groomed tonight.

The really big asset in this situation is the complete lack of any Plus C value temps
at all. Our hope is that with the residual Cold Storage the Mountain holds in the depth
of Frost into the layers of Snow and Ground below, the top layers are insulated and
should be impervious to such a minor Warm Exposure.

Tomorrows Apres Ski is when we get to share that news with you here, but in the
meantime, we’re looking forward to very fine conditions continuing on with almost
Zero glitches, and still very much Pure Winter.

In addition to an optimistic outlook, it is Snowing again. The rate of Snowfall
and the accumulations are variable, but it’s another step in the right direction.

91(*) Open Trails on the 4 Very Refined Sides of #Tremblant.

Today is the first day of the season that the Open Trail Count
has reached into the 90’s, out of Tremblant's 95 Trail total.

Take Refuge From The Storms of Life at Tremblant.

Refuge, pictured below, is the Soleil Sector, Log Cabin Rest/Warmup
facility located about 1/3 the way down from the top, between Toboggan
and Laurentienne. As it’s name suggests, it is a warm, rustic, quiet Trail-Side
rest, relax and warmup spot where you can get a Hot Chocolate or Coffee
and take a cozy break in front of a very warm fire. We love stopping by
whenever we can. It’s truly like stepping back in time to the early days of
Skiing!

In the Opening Statement, Top-Of-Page, we wrote “Very Refined” which is
a specific reference to the current, multi-day string of uninterrupted Sub-Zero,
24 hour ‘round the clock temp’s that have not had any thermal spikes what-so-ever,
and the combination of every day, repeated Grooming/Packing Cycles as well
as about 70 some-odd CM’s of Fresh New Snow.

The yield of all those factors is what we call “Pure Winter” Conditions.

The Open Alpine Snow Sport Trail Surfaces of “Pure Winter” are the most consistent,
reliable, and closest to Glitch-free, that exist within any season. It is the number of
days that the string goes for that helps to determine the overall refinement due to
the Incremental improvements that Mountain Crews Efforts build upon, day after day.

Wear factors are almost completely negated in this current situation by the gradual
and very steady contributions of New, Fresh Snow by Mother Nature which have
been carefully Integrated into the base.

An Added and Very Positive Co-Factor has been the Cryogenic Effect on the New Snow
itself, most of which has come during some deep freeze, -20’sC snowfall events that
generates a sort-of “Freeze Dry” Snow Crystal. When Packed and Groomed into the
base, these Cold Formed Snow Crystals have some of the most desirable performance
qualities possible within a season.

This shot below is useful in a couple of practical assessments you can take from it
which are both the beautiful, seamless and even appearance of the Top Layers, as well
as the light, shred-able qualities of the Dry Snow Crystals being displaced by the
side-slip braking action being done by the Boarder. This is very easy Snow to perform
well on and regardless of your Skill Level, if you choose Terrain appropriately, you will
have a very easy day on the Slopes of Tremblant today.

So Far... all we’ve talked about is the performance... but when you’re at Tremblant,
with Great Performance, comes Great Natural Beauty.

The very same thing, i.e., Abundant Fresh Snow, that make Tremblant so Fine to
Ski or Board on right now, also make it remarkably Beautiful. Virtually around every
Turn of Every Trail is a New Winter Scene of Post-Card Like excellence, no matter
the days weather, either Snowy or Sunny.

If you’re on your way this morning, you’re going to have a windy, but fine day.

If you’re on your way “soon”, you’ve got a lot to look forward to!

Weather Notes:

Very Much Milder Today... with daytime high at Zero C after lunch.
Windy, Gusty, Breezy... Maybe some Lift Safety Issues??? ...not sure yet, but...
Compared to yesterday morning at -25 C, that’s a HUGE rise in “Easy”
and what we are hoping for is that with Cooler Mountain Elevations, this
closeness to the freezing mark will not measurably affect Surfaces at all.
There may be some Wind-Induced softness, but the extent of those affects
remains to be seen and will really only become apparent tomorrow when the
forecast includes New Fresh Snowfall and temp's to return to well below Zero.

Summary and Repeat From Above:

This is very easy Snow to perform well on and regardless of your Skill Level,
if you choose Terrain appropriately, you will have a very easy day on the Slopes
of Tremblant today.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
