There was a Surreal Quietness to “Last Run” on Versant Nord,
the North Side at Tremblant Friday. It was a surprisingly busy day
on the Mountain. With all the Happy People gone for the day and the
complete absence of any traffic while the Snow began to fall quite
vigorously, the stillness of the moment was profound and there was
the realization that Saturday should start out with some very fine conditions.
On the Groomed Trails, todays conditions should be nothing short of Excellent.
Pure Winter, Sub-Zero temps have been solidly in place without so much as a
single degree above zero for around two weeks and the quality of the Base Snow
Surfaces reflects that consistency with equal measure.
Skiing these Groomed Surfaces is delightful. The reliability of Grip and Traction
means that All Skill Levels can not only find a tremendous abundance of Beautiful
Terrain, but you can completely focus on technique without having to be worried
about navigating much in the way of hazards or glitches.
MOUNTAIN UTILIY NOTE:
We reported on the expansion of Duncan’s Upper Summit Pitch earlier this week
and here is an annotated photo showing this simple and completely effective
modification to Duncan in a place that was previously known as a spot prone to
being an icy bottleneck. It is now a much wider and much easier, more accommodating
entrance and a very wide and even sloped pitch that is far more “User Friendly”.
Riding up the Duncan Quad over this new modification as you near
the Summit Crest looks like this:
This Very Simple, Very Smart Modification to Duncan Gets the
“User Friendly Utility Award” for the Month.
Nord, North Park @ “Rope Tow”, Re-Configuration:
As of 1.23.15:
It is our understanding that the Nord, North Park Crews are very interested
in evolving the configuration of the Modules/Features to try new combinations
that participants will find both challenging and enjoyable, so you can look
forward to periodic, fresh changes.
Weather/Conditions Notes:
Daytime high at -4C, under an overcast sky.
There is no thermal threat to Snow Surfaces despite getting
closer to the Zero Mark, but if there is any softening, we think
that might be from a combination of Humidity and Friction(Traffic)
generated effects.
On the Groomed surfaces, conditions should remain at their current
state of excellence, while on the un-groomed Expert Terrain, caution
on initial exploration is necessary to navigate natural hazards as they
become evident in the course of traffic wear patterns.
