T360 Apres Midnight, Apres Ski @ 1:55 A.M.

More Snow, followed by More Snow, and then after that,
Some More Snow.

In many areas, it’s accumulated to quite a depth, in other areas, it’s been exposed
to enough wind to erode it almost completely to reveal the Solid Base underneath,
but those Slick bits are a minority.

All the New Snow is Cold-Formed Light, Dry, Powder. It developed some friction
factors due to the rather loose accumulations today, so in reality it might not
be so much friction on the new snow itself, but rather the frontal resistance
generated at Ski Tips when encountering relatively uncompressed loosely
sitting surface layers.

This translates into a ever-so-slight loss of Glide, and the usefulness of a
skating action with Skis to maintain speed on plateau’s or shallow pitches.

It takes a wee bit of effort to keep speed, but on Steeper pitches the net effect
is just enough drag to add a sense of enhanced control over the forces of
Gravity to render out some “Dynamite” Conditions!

A couple of days ago we said something like “Forget The Gym, Ski/Board
Tremblant for Excellent Exercise”... that is still correct. You can passively
ski around if you want, there’s plenty of great Beginner Terrain like
P’tit Bonheur, but with a wee bit of propulsive Skating action, it’s just
way more fun to be quick!

96(*) Open Trails on the Yet-Again Snowed On 4 Sides Of #Tremblant.

It’s not a fancy action or trick shot, but...

This is the main reason you want to be at Tremblant Today...

Actually, it’s two main reasons you want to be at Tremblant today...

1) Excellent Fresh Powder Snow.

2) "All To Yourself” Private Club Day...
it’s Monday, a weekday, and most of the
locals and regulars are off at work or at school, so it’s mostly Resort Holiday Guests,
retired people and anyone else that have either the Brains or Good Luck to
have the day off to be out on these very fine slopes at Tremblant.

Lets take a closer look at the Snow.

Above: The camera captures the depth, but is does not come close to
capturing the “Lightness” of this Dusty, Dry Powder Snow. Even in the
tracked portions it is not likely to catch any edges because it is simply too
loose and too light.

Typical of Cold-Formed Powder Snow it does not pack easily by hand so it
makes lousy Snowballs, but that fact alone makes it “Forgiving” for Beginners
and Intermediates because it is far less likely to trip you up and has far less
lateral resistance for maintaining basic manoeuvres like “Snowplow” wedge shape
based stoping or turning efforts.

Additionally, and really part of the Forgiveness factor, is that the dryness also
means very low friction so far. Everyone that’s played with snow knows that when
there’s any sort of humidity or dampness to it, snow can become somewhat sticky.

This snow is not sticky at all.

If friction becomes a factor, it will likely be from frontal resistance of Skis trying
to pass through depth accumulations.

Packed under the weight of a 12,000 Lbs. Grooming Machine this snow makes
an almost perfect running trail surface, so where Mountain Crews have driven
over it, you will find truly superb carving traction that will be enjoyable to all
Skill Levels.

Weather Notes:

The current volatility of the weather patterns makes short term forecasting
accuracy very difficult. As little as 4 hours ago, weather models were predicting
partially Sunny Sky’s for Tremblant, but what we have is quite overcast and does
not look even remotely like it could be sunny at all. Maybe that will change, but
looking up at all the “Grey” up there, it seems like a long shot for Sun anytime soon.

The Wind is Strong and Gusty. Tremblant.ca is even recommending Guests Ski
the North for best results on the Official Snow Report’s early publishing.

The Daytime High temp is supposed to reach -11C, but with the velocity of
the wind, in any wind-exposed areas it will feel like -20C due to Windchill.

It is also fair to point out that there will be Lee-Side calm areas too, and in
those sheltered pockets, it will seem warm compared to any of your recent
Tremblant “Cool” days.

------------- Conditions Caveat -----------------

Windchill is a significant factor today. Bundle Up and pay close
attention to Seals, Overlaps and Sufficient Layers. Eliminating
any Gaps between skin at Face, Neck or Wrists to exterior envelop
is critical.

More Weather Notes Repeat:

The Mainstream News Media continue to be obsessed by reports of Record
East Coast Seasonal Low Temps for this week.

We’re re-running the graphic we put up yesterday because so far, it still stands.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
