T360 Apres Ski Edit @ 7:45 P.M.

First off... it was really Freekin’ Cold outside today.

Crystal Blue Clear though, and surprisingly, where sheltered from the breeze,
and basking in the Sun, there was definite heat energy in the most direct rays
at and just after noon.

We were pleasantly surprised by the brave pioneer spirit of a good sized
attendance, we think the “Sunny” part of the situation was attractive to many.

Of course the Skiing and Boarding are very fine, and the conditions will be
getting better daily as the recent fresh snow is integrated by Grooming into
the base. There are supposed to be “Flurries” overnight again as well.

There aren’t many finer High Performance Surfaces than Tremblant has
right now. The uniformity of top layer shreddable snow can generate
very significant lateral turning force and there’s no doubt that if you want
a very thorough Workout, you will probably run out of Muscle WWWay before
you run out of Tremblant. Only the very top Skiers/Boarders in terms of
outright physical fitness could even dream of having all day endurance
at the grip levels these conditions have on almost every square inch of the
Groomed Terrain.

Of course.... for Beginners, Intermediates and Experts who are in the mood
to cruise, you can have as many hours of “Easy” as you want at any relaxed
pace. The versatility of the terrain allows any level of energy use or conservation
your skills and abilities are comfortable with.

We’re looking forward to a milder day tomorrow @ -13C, even if it is overcast.
It would definitely be worth it to have more Snow.

Challenges du Jour:

1) Cold. You Know What To Do... Bundle Up.
(We’ll talk more about that below(**))

2) Too Much Snow??? Never at a Ski Resort.

Logistically speaking, abundant Snowfall takes a couple or three days
to completely integrate into the total square area of the groomed
trail inventory.

Easiest Trails In terms of Skill Level Applications After Abundant Snowfall:

Green: Beginners... The best Terrain for Beginners may be on the “Old Faithful”
Green Trails like Nansen and P’tit Bonheur. There may be some thickness even there,
but these are 2 examples of Green Trails that receive the most regular Grooming
and consequently, the highest probability of easy effort to progress on.

Blue: Intermediates... This Group represents the greatest range of Skills
because it is the demographic that all Beginners move into, but it is also
the group that is most prone to stagnation(and not necessarily by their
own fault either. Maybe the best example of why is that if you only have
an average of 6 days a season(the average number of days average people
Ski/Board per season?), it’s hard to progress out of that level with that
little practice).

For this Group, the Big “B’s”, South, Beauvallon, North, Beauchemin, are
Great choices because these 2 examples are principle Descent Routes,
so they get Grooming priority and... they allow sufficient speed over sufficient
pitch to establish a good technical rhythm.

Black: Experts... Anything goes.

The biggest single safety factor, FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS... in these conditions
is Too Much Speed.

Soft top layers compress with nothing more that the weight of the Skier
passing over. In these circumstances, it’s quite easy to hook an edge that’s
just below the surface and too much speed at that moment can make braking,
direction changing or accident avoidance very, very difficult.

Above: Yesterday's Weather was just beginning to show signs of clearing at Last Run.

Weather Notes:

Back To Cool and Sun Today...

The Cool Elephant In The Room...(**)

It’s been a Cold Winter on the East Coast of North America... stats wise.
Certainly psychologically, week after week of cold weather makes it seem
like a “Long” winter too, and is generally recognized as something that can
cause profound effects on the human spirit.

“S.A.D.” Seasonal Affective Disorder is a valid, legitimate, recognized Medical
Diagnosis for what is technically speaking, a form of Depression mostly
associated with Winter.

We do not have the time to discuss all the aspects of “Too Much Winter”,
other than to suggest that Skiing and Boarding at Tremblant are 2 of
the very best ways to offset S.A.D., because “Involvement” not only
speeds up the perception of winters progress, but you get all the benefits
of the vigorous, healthy Outdoor Exercise, including the very positive
mood elevation that Exercise creates and the increased exposure to daylight
hours which are a critical element of S.A.D. therapies.

On a Day-By-Day Basis... Dealing with Cold Weather, like todays
daytime high of -20C outside, can be much more easily handled with even
low cost, entry level currently available winter garments due to the widespread
use of vastly better insulation fabrics that have become far less expensive than
even a few years ago.

Summary:

Our reading audience is small, but never-the-less, if you’re reading this,
it’s likely that you’re already a very dedicated Winter Fan, so we think it’s
entirely appropriate to suggest that it’s up to those of us who already know
and get the benefits of Active Winter Outdoor Sport Participation, to demonstrate
and promote those benefits to those we know who may respond favourably to our “Encouragement”.

Therefore...

Go Skiing Or Boarding At Tremblant As Soon And As Often As You Can!

...and drag all your friends out too!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
