This above is another angle on the shot we ran in last night’s Apres Ski
and it tells the very same story, there’s a lot of Snow around these parts.
Anyone who appreciates genuine Winter Conditions, is going to be Thrilled
to be at Tremblant right now!

The Skiing is amazingly good because of the sequential string of Sub-Zero
24/7 days which is now approaching 50. This remarkable thermal consistency
allows for the complete Grooming effort to be concentrated on “Refinement”
as opposed to the more typical pattern that involves the odd “January Thaw” style
event every couple of weeks or so, where “Recovery” from Ice formation
becomes the predominant mode. NONE OF THAT IN ALMOST 50 DAYS!

The result of all that Refinement is an extraordinarily fine level of surface
conditions on all the Groomed Terrain.

The "je ne sais quoi" Factor:

On top of that... Every once in a while, Mother Nature “Cooks” up something
unique in the combination of Atmospheric Components, i.e. wind, temp, humidity
or lack of humidity, barometric pressure, rates of change for any of those factors,
just for some examples of variables...

...and the result of that is a very rare Satin-like, somewhat indescribable, Groomed
Surface Quality that Skiing Underfoot feels very much like you are floating a couple
of inches off the ground. We’ve only had that special surprise one other day so far
this season, which if memory serves correctly, was back in December.

So, yesterday was Cool and Wintery Windy for sure, but Wow... Fantastic Skiing.
Will we see a repeat today? Not sure, but regardless, even if that little "je ne sais quoi”
(that perhaps only some Experts may sense) is different today, the average conditions
at Tremblant right now are Excellent all day long to begin with.

Yesterday we wrote about “Canaries In The Coal Mine” as an indicator
of the health of a Mountain Sector. What we forgot to add to that reference
was the concept that in the original use of Canaries as measures of Air Quality
in Mining applications, the “Canaries” , birds that were very susceptible to poor
Air Quality, would actually react at considerably Less contamination than humans
can withstand, so if there was a problem in the mine, the Canaries would be visibly
affected far enough in advance of Human Threat, to give the Humans enough time
to escape the Toxic situation before serious harm could occur. The Miners never
intended to measure the incremental Health of the air, only the incremental
deterioration, but in our situation we metaphorically go both ways, so conversely,
on the Mountain, when our Canary In the Coal Mine example Nord, North Side trail
Banzai is in this good condition, you KNOW there is a huge margin of safety
concerning any hazards in the conditions of the entire surrounding Sector.
Additionally, at this date in February, we further recognize that when the Canaries
in the Coal Mine are this healthy, the whole Mountain has attained what we call
“The Fullness of the Mature Season”.

is an excellent indicator of Both Sector and Mountain Health.

Weather Notes:

Very Cold, Very Windy... Not really an ideal combination at minus 20’s C,
but what can you do? The cold is not unique to our area, it’s cold all the
way to Florida and the Mainstream News Media is filled with stories about
how cities like Boston Mass. have blown their Snow Removal budget for
the whole year by a week ago and now face huge cost overruns to try to
keep up with even more winter yet to come.

In the mean-time, out in British Columbia... there is no Snow in many areas
and that too has made the news in the form of Video reports showing very
healthy Grass and Shrub Growth with empty chair lifts Not Running overhead.

Take another look at the Proof Of Snow above and be thankful if you’re an
East Coast Skier/Boarder at Tremblant right now. We can dress for the cold,
and our Skiing is Heavenly Good.

Cool Temp’s and fabulous Skiing are definitely giving
the edge to the East over many of the current West Coast
no-snow “Brown-outs”.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
