2/19/15 #Tremblant Conditions

.
T360 Middle of the Night Shift Apres Ski @ 2:00 A.M.
The “Little Gusty Breezes” we talked about below in todays Weather Notes,
escalated way up to the point that by Last Run on Nansen, they could almost
push you up. Almost as quick as the winds got whipped up, the temps got
whipped down and with that combination, things got downright Nippy in a hurry.
That Changed Nothing About The Excellent Skiing.
“Excellent” Is the New “Average” at Tremblant!
...You’ll just have to get used to it!
Tomorrows Weather... Mostly Sunny, with daytime high @ -15C
Moderate to strong Nor, Nor-West Winds
Bundle Up and Enjoy!
---------------- 8:59 A.M. Orig. Post -----------------
96(*) Open Trails on the Snow Refreshed 4 Sides of #Tremblant.
Thank You Mother Nature!
Roughly 4 cm’s of Very Fine, Light, Dry, Powder Snow.
We Needed That!
Before we go any further, it’s important to note that we reported in last night’s
Apres Ski that there were Traffic and Wind generated Slick and Icy spots in
some trails that were not there on previous days. Traffic and Wind Patterns today
could re-expose some of those, so please use caution and maintain safe
controllable speed until you have verified todays conditions.
Equally important is to note that in perspective(^^), these are still quite small in relation
to the overall Surface Conditions, but because they may occur in areas of Traffic
Concentration, like Trail Entrances or Trail Intersections or Merges, like over Crests
and onto the centres of Steeper Pitches, they can seem larger than they really are.
For Example:
The Above picture, taken on Lower Fuddle Duddle shows the "Average Is Excellent”
conditions you will encounter on 95% of the Terrain at Tremblant. Just above this
location was a small icy patch though, so to keep the example objective and realistic,
it needs to be mentioned. The “Perspective”(^^) part is that while some would dwell
on the one tiny, tiny icy bit, we would never do that when the other 99.9% of this
obviously Excellent Trails Carving surfaces are quite close to perfect.
The New Snow last night, plus the Grooming, are probably not only going to reduce
or eliminate “Icy”, but they’re going to make scenes like the one above even better
than they already were.
Experts on Expo Made it look Easy!
We did not personally Ski Expo yesterday, but those who were, made it look
easy. The Outboard edges of the Groomed portion have the most loose snow
but there was not much at all in the way of scraping and we watched several
Experts Ski it in complete control and looking very good doing it!
Below:
It’s almost hard to imagine how this could get “Better”.
2.18.15.Devils.River.Sweet.Swift.Snow.b.jpg
As another Prime Example of Tremblant’s Expert terrain, the Nord, North Side Trail
“Devils River” was without flaw when we were on it after lunch. Maybe there was a
flaw somewhere, but we did not see or experience so much as a Snowflake out of place.
Over on the South, we’d been told that McCulloch had some icy bits so we went there
for a look and found a handful of somewhat typical upper pitch slick or icy patches in the
centre of the run, but both left and right sides were excellent and the left side, down the
tree line as you are descending, was nothing but soft built up Powder Snow. Below
the pitch, McCulloch was wall-to-wall high traction, beautiful Skiing and it stayed that
way for the whole line we used down to Beauvallon Bas and Johannsen.
We have quite fresh sharp edges, so if you do not have well, or recently tuned edges,
your experience may have been different.
The Bottom Line on Conditions is that the Base is totally stable underneath and
conditions at 9:30 A.M. are quite near the same smoothness at Last Run because of it.
Sure there are some wind ’n wear factors here and there but not a single one
of them is much bigger than a Tea Cup in a Swimming Pool.
Weather Notes:
Daytime High Temp at -11C with Snowy Overcast Sky.
“Flurries” and little Gusty Breezes seem to be the main
ingredients in the mix so far.
Conditions Notes:

Please Note: The hazy, periodically overcast sky yesterday meant a lot of
flat, low contrast light conditions which are not good for photography.
Sorry about that. What we always try to do is default to alterations in
definition, contrast, highlights and saturation that reveal the Snow Surface
Quality. When it comes to choosing between trees, long panoramas or any
other scenic attributes, we will always keep the Snow we use for our favourite
Winter Sports as our primary object of best imagery.
