It remained Winter at the Summit ’til about noon.

We were out on the arrival of “Spring” by about 22 minutes...

The original forecast for a “Plus” Summit temp was for 2:00 P.M.

We first observed Plus 1degree C at 1:38 P.M.

The North Side retained a slight advantage farther into the day...

The above reference to “Spring” is only a relative one as Spring does not
officially arrive until the 20th of March this year, but in this seasons case, after
some 71 days of uninterrupted below zero temps on the Mountain, any rise above
the Zero mark is good enough to feel like Spring.

There has been thermal energy perceptible in the Sun’s rays for many weeks,
but todays combination of the suns height in the sky and the intensity of the
warmth at temps we’re not recently used to, certainly breaks the chain of cold
that at least symbolically, indicates Spring is very close at hand.

The softness in the top layers requires a slightly higher personal energy
level to maintain a neutral balance position in, but is still very easy to ski.
The extra energy is only to hold a more compact, lower stance over the
skis that is perhaps similar or comparable to an isometric effort.

The surfaces are very forgiving and Learning or Refining technique is easy
with speed that’s appropriate for any given Skill Level of either the Person
or the Terrain.

This is the first night in Who Knows how many, of sustained above zero at the
South Resort Base. It’s definitely the first one this year, so there may be some
lingering softness in top layers at lower Mountain levels, but the Summit should
be Sub-Zero, so you can expect solid firmness first thing in the morning.

The forecast for Wednesday starts with some mixed Precipitation that could
include a wee bit of rain and/or sleety snow, but only until 10:00 A.M., after which
it’s supposed to be sunny again.

High temp @ Plus 4C, so we’re projecting another great day of Spring
Conditions with 100% coverage.

Very, Very Sweet Skiing and Boarding that will respond well to Bases
either Waxed or Coated with “Warm” range material for optimum
speed and glide.

Before we get to the outlook for today,
here’s a “One.Pic.” summary of Yesterday...

Please Note: Pic. above was shot with one of our Backup camera’s and
while it lacks resolution in the complex background, we’ve selected it
because of the very well illuminated Trail Snow Surfaces. Taken on Versant
Soleil on Laurentienne, adjacent to the “Refuge” Trail Side Warm-up facility,
it depicts the typical quality that Tremblant Guests have been used to for
many, many weeks.

Moving Forward...

The Forecasted rise above Plus 4C exceeds the Cooler Elevation Differential
that commonly occurs between the Summit and the Resort Base and today
may therefore be the first day the Summit of Tremblant has had Plus Value
Temps, so far, in 2015.

As near as we can figure... today is the first day in a stretch of some 71 days
that Tremblant will see Top-To-Bottom Plus Temps on the Mountain. That’s quite
a record, and indicative of quite an exceptional winter.

What This Means For The Skiing Today...

Not too much because there was no past 24 hour Thaw/Freeze cycle, so as the
thermometer creeps upward, it may simply soften the very top layer exposed to
air and/or sun... But...

Even then, there may not be much in the way of “effects”. The fact that the base
is so well chilled, and in essence being supported by the very deep frost below, often
means the conditions continue on with very much winter-like quality in the initial
phases of warmer Spring temps.

On Top Of That... There’s “Convection”. Most people think of Convection as
“Hot Air Rises”, but in our case what we’re interested in is the opposite...
“Cold Air Sinks”. Here you have a gigantic conical object, “Mont Tremblant”,
very well, and very deeply frosted to the core, so the ambient “Cold” in the
Mountain causes a “Cold Air Sinks” flow of downward surface air movement
when the wind is low enough that it does not offset this downward flow.

Bottom line is that there’s a good possibility we may not see much in the way of
surface Thermal effects for today.

This is one of the times when Mountain Crews Grooming takes on new importance
in the Green, Beginner and Blue, Intermediate Skill Level Terrain. After a day of “Soft”,
the overnight Sub-Zero firms that right up, so for best results, Smooth is best
to start off with.

The kinds of things we’re going to start seeing now are normally what we’d be seeing
every two or three weeks all winter long with “January or February Thaws”, and the
fact that we have not had ANY of those simply highlights the extraordinary quality
of this Seasons Peak Winter Ski/Board Conditions.

Cosmetically, Warm Air and Warm Sun may melt the Snow out of the trees, so
yesterdays pictures make look completely different in a few hours, but the
Snow Surfaces are going to be much the same for days and weeks from now.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
