3/12/15 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Ski Early Edit Under construct @ 6:15 P.M.

Considering a 25 degree C DROP in temps from +8 to well below Zero
over the last 24 hours and the potential for "icy"....

We Were Very, Very Pleasantly Surprised At The High Quality Of Tremblant Today!

Carve This!!!

P’tit Bonheur was simply Exquisite Today! Superb, Smooth, Close To Ideal
Winter Conditions with not so much as a speck of ice we could find.

And... it wasn’t the only one either. Most of the Groomed List we were able to cover
was similar or close. Evidently the Mountain Crews were able to Groom in such a way
that the Trail Surfaces responded extremely well. If someone told you it was +7 C
24 hours ago, you would almost not believe that today at -17 C or so at the Summit,
that conditions could be rendered out to this degree of “Winter”.

If you had Dull or Damaged Edges, you would have found things a lot
more slick, but if you have recently tuned gear and you use an Appropriately
Reduced Speed for Safety, the Skiing was amazingly good!

The Top Layers were not at full winter thickness, but all things considered
the Carving Grip and Lateral Traction were Very Sweet and you definitely
felt it was Technically a High Performance Day!

The “Technical” part is the need to use Subtle Control Inputs... no “Jamming”,
or Sudden, Jerky movements... Smoothly roll into the turns and it was very
surprising, but you could just keep on leaning and leaning into your Edge set
for some Excellent Carving response, turn, after turn, after turn!!!

You’d have to be Crazy to think that these Surfaces were anything less
than Total Fun to work with All Day! Responsive, Swift, Sweet, and Smooth!

Bravo Tremblant Mountain Crews! Excellent Work!!!

We were asked several times today about the Open Trail List and if we know anything
about the reasons for the number of Closed Trails.

We do not know anything about the specifics of the Closed Trails.

Based on Chair Lift Observations and Weather Forecasts, we can see that
regardless of the reasons, there are examples of potential Benefits for
Near-Term Tremblant Guests though.

One Example is Expo. Expo is closed today and we can see there would be
potential benefits to keeping it closed in the form of retaining the additional
Natural Snowfall that fell last night, plus the Snow that’s forecasted to fall
over the next day or so and then Groom all that in together. Any natural snow
Blended into the previous base may help to Integrate the Chewed-up Icy Bits
for a more Natural processed Grooming result.

Friday Conditions Forecast ... Repeat, Very Fine!

Otherwise...

Welcome to the beginning of the annual cycle of Temp.ranges that can span
above and below Zero in the daily 24 hours.

This is where things become “Interesting” and attention to details in both
equipment and technique pay big benefits to “User Friendly” utilities.

Under the category of “The Laws Of Physics” ... Yesterday saw a recorded
daytime high temp. @ +8 C, and it is now -11 C, therefore, there will be
an Icy component in the Trail Surface mix.

C'est la vie...

BUT... The Summit went back Sub-Zero around 9:00 P.M. last night and the whole
Mountain went Sub-Zero by around Midnight, so any Grooming done in the Middle
of the Night Shift should have produced good, Skiable surfaces.

You will need to explore with caution to find the Sweet Spots,
but they should be there and we’ll let you know where we thought
they were in Apres Ski, later on.

Equipment Notes:

Of course... Sharp Edges will be a critical element in BOTH Control and Enjoyment,
but we’ve been promoting Edge and Base Prep. here for several days in anticipation
of this Forecasted Weather, so if you’ve gotten that done, your day will be substantially
better than if you have not.

Technique/Conditions Notes:

Speed over solid surfaces is not a problem. Braking and Turning can be.
All Tremblant Guests today will need to focus on absolute control. “Runaway”
scenarios are to be expected too. It is almost inevitable that Skill Levels
will be challenged and when “Gravity” and “Icy” are a potential combination,
we advise all Mountain users to keep the eye’s in the back of your head alert
for those who may not be as good as you are. Unexpected contact is the
most unpredictable cause of mishaps so “Scanning” continuously is warranted
because you are not out there alone. Pay Attention to what’s going on around you
as much as you can.

A low, compact centre of gravity with well completed turns at slower speeds requires
good technical skills to maintain so today will actually be a very fine day to work
on those skills. If you are a “Glass Half Full”, Optimistic Person, you already know
there can be a gratifying sense of accomplishment in Skillfully Mastering conditions
that are not as Easy as those we’ve been used to up ’til now.

Traffic will help render Skiable surfaces too. Edges continuously running over solid
Corduroy helps to create smaller particles, so there is some probability that as the
day goes on, there will be surface improvements for that reason alone.

Weather And Conditions Notes:

There may be Changes to the Open Trails during the day. Observe Posted
Signage and Consult with Tremblant Info. Crews.

------- Early Morning Update:-------

T360 Team Members iPhone Site reports indicate a bigger than usual
Elevation Differential at 6 degrees C Lower Summit than Base Temps
@ 9:00 A.M. The typical Spread is 4C cooler.

In last night’s Apres Ski we issued a “Bundle Up” alert, so hopefully
a bit of extra prep in that department will pay off in the comfort factor today.

Page under progressive assembly... Please Note:

One of the most important things to remember on days like today is to approach
the Tremblant Info. Crews for up-to-the-minute Trail, Lift and Sector status changes
that their Radio communications can provide. Their purpose is to make your day better
by relaying useful information and when changes can occur from moment to moment
for any reason, they are the first to be able to pass that along.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
