3/21/15 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Ski Edit under construction @ 10:45 P.M.

All the Weather forecasting for today basically got it Wrong.
... in a good way.

The Tremblant Official Snow Report summarized things the same way
other forecasters did early this morning with:

"Top that off with a few snowflakes in the forecast for today!”

Wow, That was a complete understatement!

“A Few Snowflakes” turned out to be more like a Blizzard!

You’re not going to get much in the way of Photography today because of it.
Practical Photography was Not Practical, it was near impossible to keep snow
out of the lens.

There were moments of limited clarity, but they were indeed “Moments”.
We had to wait for a couple of minutes to get this one at the Upper North
Entrance to “Andy Moe”.

Considering that the forecast had even allowed for the possibility of Rain,
it was a far better than expected precipitation result, however it did make the
going a real workout as the accumulation was building so quickly that it was not
long before surfaces took on a typical “Tons of Snow” Washboard effect.

Experts were finding Powder Trail edges all day and whoops could be heard as
the fun level went up just as quickly as the piles of Snow.

Temps on the Mountain did remain Sub-Zero by a handful of degrees, so all
the Snow stayed Snow on the Ground, but on the People, who even well
clothed, radiate heat, the snow melted on contact, so like it or not, you were wet,
especially on the butt, while riding up the Chairs. The Wind over the dampness was
enough to to chill you into thinking it was February again, but in every good way.

Obviously, Grooming is going to make the Critical Difference for Beginners and
Intermediates tomorrow.

The fact that the temps are supposed to drop to -18 C tonight could be a huge
asset if “Freeze Drying” helps to render out internal dampness. We’ll have to wait
’til tomorrow to see how it all plays out, but we think there’s a good possibility
of a favourable result.

It’s already a great result to have such a substantial addition to the base. There
will be a fair amount Groomed in tomorrow on the Main Trails, and in a longer
case scenario, it may take a couple of days to integrate all of it into the usual
Tremblant Standard of Smoothness over the whole Mountains Groomed Terrain List.

Partially Sunny, Flurries Possible, and a daytime high of -9 C for Tomorrow.
Another Beautiful, Mild February day, 2/3rd’s the way through March!

Either Way, or anywhere between, Tremblant has you covered!

There’s simply no such thing as a bad choice within appropriately matched Terrain
to your Skill Level at Tremblant right now, and on top of that, there’s a Magic Carpet
Coating of Fresh New Snow falling over it too!

If you are a Regional Ski/Board Fan, the only bad choice you can possibly make
is not being here if you could be. Other than a couple of days for Safety Related
Weather Issues(nothing to do with coverage or quality), the Mountain has been
100% Open, 96/96 available Trails since January 30th!!!

It’s an Incredible, Exceptional, and Historic Season of perhaps the purest, most
intense Winter on Regional Record for over 175 Years, according to The Weather
Network, and we believe them!

We can even understand why some people may have skipped out on the very coldest
of days, back in the dead of this astounding winter, but now that the Temps are so
mild and easy.... there’s no excuse at all that makes any remote sort-of-sense for
missing the benefits that all that consistent “Cold” has imparted onto the current
Trail conditions here at Tremblant.

The base, which is still over 90% pure, compacted and meticulously Groomed SNOW...
is as close to flawless for this date as you may ever see. It is being supported from
below by a Frost so deep that it will take months to radiate all the stored cold reserve.
The density of the base from it’s lowest point touching against the frozen ground, is
acting as a conductor for the upward transmission of refrigerant properties to the top
layers we Ski or Board on and the resultant stability and virtually universal quality
is immediately apparent to the Mountain Guests as the very highest degree of
"User Friendly”. These are some of the very best Eastern North American Alpine
Snow Sport Conditions possible.

Glitches? ...sure, there are a few, but you’d have to be a ridiculously fussy person to
quibble about any of those when the overwhelming level of quality is so amazingly high
to begin with for March 21st.

If you combine all the positive attributes of the Ski and Board Conditions with
Tremblant’s UNLIMITED Spring Ski/Board Pass at $179.00 plus tx.etc., the value
represented is nothing short of a Steal, a Theft, for the True Ski/Board Fan... a Gift.

Weather Notes: South Resort Base daytime high @ +2 C, Overcast and SNOWING.
we expect the Mountain to remain Sub-Zero with Elevation. Very light winds.
A Classic, Beautiful, Spring Ski/Board Day!

We said it yesterday and we’ll say it one more time...

We may never see a season like this again, so no matter what your
personal Terrain preferences may be, the only Crazy thing you can do
is to miss out on experiencing them.
