T360 Apres Ski Mid Night Edit...

Good News, “Other” News...

The “Other” News is that your Author here has had “Cold and Flu Symptoms”
which seem to have peaked around noon today with a low grade fever, aches
n’ pains and reduced energy levels, so in the interests of intelligent personal
health utilities, the decision was made to remain indoors. Sorry about that...
Hopefully, tomorrow will see a return to normal.

The Good News is that we have third party references to “Good” Conditions
on the Groomed Trails and on the Un-Groomed, lots of “Fluffy” Snow, which seems
to support our idea that last night’s -20C did indeed dry out the moisture
in yesterdays rather damp snow.

In Other, “Other” News... The Weather Network has published data showing the
continued below normal temperature pattern common to the Eastern half of
North America this winter is being forecast until at least Mid-April.

The NCEP, National Centers for Environmental Prediction within the U.S. NOAA,
released these Colour Coded Graphic representations that basically cover the time
period between now and Mid-April.

WHAT THIS MEANS...

Skiing/Boarding has a very high probability of being Excellent, right up
’til Last Run on April 12th.

By that stage, there may only be a few remaining Winter fanatics left
as there’s certainly no shortage of “Fed Up With Winter” sentiment from
the public at large who seem to be more than ready to polish their Golf Clubs
or wax their riding Lawn Mowers.

Winter’s Encore...

Pic’s were difficult yesterday ‘cause it was almost impossible to keep
Snow out of the Lens...

The rapid accumulations made for extra challenge, especially for Beginners
and Intermediates, but at least there was a very apparent respect for the
extra margins for safety and people were being very sensible with Speed.

The close proximity of temps to Zero was just enough to keep the precipitation
100% Snow, but with your body heat, just enough to get damp as the Snow
coating everyone got plastered with, melted on outer garment layers. A wet butt
was to be expected. If we had half a brain, a Descente Poncho would have been
an excellent option and the fact that there was one in the car, sitting there, nicely
folded up while we headed for the lift made us feel kind of silly afterwards for not
thinking of it.

Anyway... Tons more Snow is a great thing for the base and when there was a
momentary gap in the swirling white-out, the close-up scenery was White Winter
Wonderful.

These two from the upper Andy Moe entrance are from a small group
of pic’s that took 3 or 4 minutes to get while trying desperately to keep
the lens sheltered, then dry enough to not have smears or blotches of
big gobs of flying snow obscure the view completely.

The driving was treacherous and as the temps dropped Apres Ski, there
were cars in the ditches, skidding across intersections, jammed over
the snowbanks on the Roundabouts and no small wonder that roving
Police cars lit up like Christmas were scooting from one scene to another...

In our opinion, there are so many possible outcomes from all this weather
that speculating is almost pointless, so we’re going to make this portion
brief, try to finish up morning chores and concentrate on getting out.

There is one single great hope though, and that is we think there’s a very
good possibility that the rapid drop in temps to -20C overnight may have
facilitated a Cryogenic, or Freeze-drying effect that could help to render out
the heavy dampness that was making things so thick as it came down so
close to the freezing point. In any case, Mountain Crews Grooming could
be the determining factor.

Keeping fingers crossed on that one... News at Apres Ski...

In the mean-time, the daytime high at-10C is certainly going to feel like winter
and the Summit may see as low as -15C, so even more-so up top. It is supposed
to be partially Sunny, and it is sort-of bright, but so far the Sky is still light overcast.
Winds are Nor-West, so coming up over Beauvallon toward the Summit.

Today marks the conclusion of the Spring Break School Holiday period.
Traffic may be busy up until about lunch, but after that, things may become
quieter. Starting on the North, folks seem to migrate towards the parking lots
to get a head start for the road home. Time to get the Kids organized for
school, pick up the Dog, restock the fridge and take a deep breath before
re-booting the daily routine....

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
