Quite Possibly one of the very finest absolute Pure Spring Conditions
over almost Seamless, Pure Winter Coverage Days in Tremblant History...

Below: Shred This Carve... if you can! ...and if you can... you could do it all day!

The very delicate balance between the Solar/Thermal Energy from above the Snow
Surfaces, and the still very deep frost supporting the Snow Surfaces from below the
top layers, created a day of almost perfect Spring.

Wall-To-Wall Coverage seems bizarre on April 7th, but there it is!
Absolutely incredible smoothness with not hardly so much as a pebble
or a stick to take anything away from fields of beautifully Snow White Scenery!

The Odd Glitch...??? Sure, but very small and virtually inconsequential
compared to the 95% near perfect majority of the Groomed Terrain.

North, South, All Good!

There are two Perspectives Of Context that we think are important to point out
because of the feedback we’ve been hearing about the Icy mix in current conditions.

1) Todays Conditions in relation to the current Season.

2) Todays Conditions in relation to any other Season at this date.

Regarding #1...

History will show that the Record Setting Cold Winter Weather of this Season
generated equally record setting levels of quality in the day-to-day consistency
of Conditions here at Tremblant. We’ve gotten used to that. By logical extension,
being used to the very highest quality over the very longest time, resets the
personal reference for “Normal”. If you look back through this diary, one way we
expressed it several times during Mid-Winter was “Average Is Excellent”.
When “Spring” finally arrived, the return to more historically normal weather
patterns has brought us back to the realities where Sweet Spots are more
individual compared to recently having and extended time period where
the Whole Mountain has been a sweet spot. We need to get used to that too.

Regarding #2... If you look back at this time period through the years this record
spans, you will see that in several cases, by this date there were Seasons where
we had already experienced days of 20+C for several weeks by this time and we
were still very happy and content to enjoy those conditions enthusiastically.
Compared to some of those seasons and days, we have substantially better
coverage and quality today.

The Bottom Line on this “Perspectives” Point...

To Those who may be concerned with the conditions,i.e., the “Feedback”
we’ve been hearing on the Icy Bits... there is still an astounding level of
coverage that has rarely ever been seen for this time period and adapting
to the effects of very normal Temp Swings of Spring is a lot easier when there’s
so much to choose from.

You’ll Always feel a lot better if you get to Tremblant for some “Fresh Air”...

Above: It’s not ideal for either contrast or focus(a long telephoto in flat, grey light),
but we caught this Last Run moment on Mid-Johannsen and just couldn’t throw it away.
Moguls are no problem for those who know what to do!

On a purely functional level... we rode up Duncan yesterday with a very friendly
regular from Ottawa who was generally quite positive, but did feel that it would
be beneficial to have a Tuneup on his Skis.

We could not agree more. When there’s any kind of “Solid” or “Icy” in the conditions
mix, your best friends are Sharp Fresh Edges. In the very forgiving Excellence
of the pure Snow Base over the heart of this season, those edges may have been
a little less critical because there was just no ice at all for so long you could
get away with that. Now that we’re into the Spring cycles of above and below
freezing, if you want maximized performance and utility, tuned gear is essential.

We Told Him ... GoTo Le Ski Shop in the Chalet du Voyageurs, Cabriolet Base,
adjacent to P1.

We tell everyone the same thing. The Very Experienced Tech’s there use the only
Wintersteiger II in Canada, arguably the finest CNC Automated Ski Tuning Machine
IN THE WORLD... and their “Overnight” discount rate is the “Tuneup” Value of the decade.

This machine is NOT INVASIVE to your edges. It uses computer guidance to
gently Hone the edges rather than the more normal Stone Grinding done
at “Yourtown” and it’s sensors are capable of edge bevel to 1/10th of a degree,
so it is literally 10 times more adjustment sensitive than any other Ski tuner
we are aware of.

There could be just enough Solar Energy to render out
Super Spring Soft after lunch.

Mountain Crews Have Had Another All-Night-Shift, Grooming/Surface Refinement Cycle,

In which case, it could all add up to be an exceptionally fine afternoon!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
